Several days ago on March 27, Nintendo finally ended eShop support for the 3DS and Wii U systems, meaning that gamers can no longer purchase games and DLC digitally for their systems. With that said however, gamers in the US might be thrilled to know that they still have a few more hours until the eShop fully closes on their end.
To be more specific, Nintendo of America stated that it will extend the ability to redeem download codes until later tonight on April 3rd, due to a scheduling conflict earlier on. As per a statement on its webpage:
“As the feature to redeem download codes was disabled earlier than scheduled, we’ve extended the ability to redeem download codes until approximately 9:30 PM Pacific Time on April 3, 2023. Please redeem any remaining download codes from the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U before then.”
Nintendo adds that no changes will be implemented for the Switch eShop, which should remain unaffected by the closure of the 3DS and Wii U shops. The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U were launched back in February 2011 and November 2012, respectively, although the 3DS proved to be a more successful system in the long run, in terms of profits and developer support.
