Google Messages iMessage Reactions Old

The latest Google Messages beta is a reason betas should be avoided

There are many reasons why you might be interested in taking an app in beta for a spin. This is because betas sometimes contain new and exciting features, maybe a UI overhaul, and so on, which can be fun to check out. But one reason to avoid them is that because they are a beta, there are bugs that have yet to be ironed out.

A good example would be the latest Google Messages beta, where it appears that users who have installed the app on their Pixel phone are discovering that it crashes repeatedly and will not open, especially if your Pixel phone has the light theme enabled.

What’s interesting is that as noted by 9to5Google is that the app will work if dark theme is enabled to a certain extent. Users will be able to see their latest conversation, but tapping on the screen will cause the app to crashed instantly, which basically renders it completely useless.

If you’re wondering if this is affecting you, check the version and if you’re running “20230428_01_RC00″, then you have the affected update. It is possible that not all users are experiencing this issue, but if you are using your Pixel device as a daily driver and rely on Google Messages extensively, maybe roll it back to the public version just to be safe.
