Mankind’s quest to harness on-the-go gaming has been a never-ending pursuit, and as technology evolves it’s only logical to see more advanced takes on the whole “in-car” gaming experience. With that in mind, BMW announced that it has teamed up with AirConsole to provide passengers a way to beat boredom on the road.
The AirConsole gaming app will be available on the new BMW 5 series models, which will be accessible via a built-in display inside the vehicles. Users can pair their phones to the app to use as a controller as well, which then provides them access to 15 titles including “Go Kart Go”, “Golazo”, “Music Guess” and “Overcooked”.
The games will come with support for both solo and multiplayer gaming, and BMW says that more titles will be gradually added to the AirConsole library. Additionally, more compatible BMW models will be able to use the AirConsole feature in the coming months via software updates.
To coincide with this announcement, BMW also unveiled a specially-designed BNW i5 with a gaming-centric look – the car’s wrap comes with a pixelated design, which BMW says takes inspiration from 80s retro gaming, as well as the color theme of the AirConsole gaming platform.
