YouTube Stories will be killed off next month

Snapchat was the first to market with its Stories feature, but safe to say that the feature truly became a lot more popular when Instagram launched their own version. It also prompted other companies such as YouTube to hop onto the bandwagon.

Unfortunately not everyone enjoyed the same level of success as Instagram because in a YouTube support page, the company has announced that on the 26th of June, 2023, they will be killing off its Stories feature. According to YouTube:

“Today, there are many ways to create on YouTube – from Community posts to Shorts, to long-form and Live. To prioritize these key features, Stories are going away.

Starting on 6/26/2023 the option to create a new YouTube Story will no longer be available. Stories that are already live on that date will expire 7 days after they were originally shared.”

YouTube will instead focus its attention on other features like YouTube Community, which is where creators can create written posts addressed to their subscribers, and also YouTube Shorts, which are basically longer versions of Stories and are designed more in the style of TikTok.

YouTube claims that Shorts on average actually drives more subscribers compared to Stories, so we guess killing off the feature might not necessarily be a bad thing. But for those who still largely rely on Stories, you might want to prepare yourselves because next month it will be gone.
