Depending on where you live, the cheapest Netflix tier without ads costs around $9.99 a month (for context, some regions have access to a cheaper mobile-only plan). If you’re currently subscribed to that tier, you might want to hold onto it.
This is because it appears that over in Canada, Netflix seems to have gotten rid of its cheapest ad-free plan. Users who had previously canceled their subscription but have opted to return are now discovering that the cheapest option available to them is the standard plan with ads, which is about $6.99 a month in the US.
If these users want to watch without ads, they’ll be forced to pay for the more expensive tier which in the US costs $15.49 a month. The only “upside” is that with this more expensive plan, users can stream on more than one device simultaneously, but if you’re just watching it by yourself, then it’s not really necessary.
The good news is that for now, users who are subscribed to the $9.99 a month plan will still be able to use it. Netflix Canada’s help page states that users who are currently subscribed to that plan will remain subscribed to it until they either change plans or cancel it, in which if they do decide to return, it will no longer be available to them.
Right now this change appears to only apply to Netflix users in Canada, but we imagine that it could eventually make its way to other countries in the future.
