The OnePlus Open launch might have been delayed

Earlier this year, OnePlus confirmed their plans for a foldable phone but stopped short of saying when it would be launched. The last we heard, it was apparently scheduled for a Q3 launch, or more specifically, a launch towards the end of August. Now it looks like that may not be happening anymore.

This is according to a tweet by tipster Max Jambor who claims that the launch might have been delayed. It seems that this is due to QC issues where OnePlus wasn’t happy with the screens that they were supplied, which apparently were coming from BOE. Now it looks like OnePlus could be sourcing them from Samsung instead.

Shifting to a completely different manufacturer could mean that this delay could be longer than we would like, but exactly how long this delay will be remains to be seen. The upside is that the new displays are being sourced from Samsung who have been using them for their own foldable phones, so hopefully we’ll be getting displays that are on par with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip phones.

While it is disappointing to hear about a potential delay, it’s also good because we’d rather OnePlus get it right rather than rushing out a product. The OnePlus Open will be the company’s first foldable phone, so making a good first impression is important.
