How to add wireless charging to the Poco M5s

0

Over the years, we’ve seen tech from smartphones that were typically only reserved for high-end flagships trickle down to lower-end devices. For example, multi-camera setups were previously only available for more expensive phones, but these days, even budget handsets come with at least a dual camera setup.

Oddly enough, wireless charging isn’t one of the tech that has managed to gain ubiquitous status. There are still many phones out there that don’t support the tech, like the Poco M5s, an otherwise great value for money Android phone that’s bang for your buck.

Luckily, adding wireless charging support to the Poco M5s is a piece of cake. You don’t need to take the phone apart, all you need are a couple of accessories that will set you back a few bucks and you’re good to go!

What you will need

To give your Poco M5s wireless charging, you will need a couple of accessories to start:

  • A wireless charging adapter
  • A wireless charger

Wireless charging adapter

Since the Poco M5s lacks wireless charging, one of the accessories you’ll need is a wireless charging adapter. These are basically the same wireless charging coils that you might find in a phone with wireless charging. The only difference is that these coils are now placed on the outside of the phone instead of inside.

They will connect to your phone via its USB-C port and when used together with a wireless charger, it will charge your phone wirelessly. The only problem is that it uses your phone’s USB-C port which means that if you need to connect other devices, like a power bank, an external drive, or wired headphones that use a USB-C connection, you can’t while the adapter is attached.

But if you don’t really see yourself using the port other than for charging purposes, then we guess it won’t be that big of a deal.

Wireless charger

Now that you’ve gotten a wireless charging adapter, you will need a wireless charging mat to charge your phone on. If you’re new to wireless charging and don’t already have one lying around at home or the office, then these are some charging mats you might be interested in checking out:

One thing to note is that these third-party wireless charging accessories and chargers is that they don’t offer the same speeds as native wireless charging adapters or chargers. This means that if you were hoping for speeds like 15W-20W, you might be disappointed, but if you’re mainly looking at wireless charging for the convenience it offers, then this should be good enough.
