We suppose things had to end sometime – just recently, Nintendo and DeNA issued a formal statement regarding upcoming content for Nintendo’s mobile Mario Kart spinoff, Mario Kart Tour. While the game has enjoyed a handful of years of new content releases, it looks like things will be changing soon.
More specifically, Nintendo and DeNA will soon end content releases for the game. According to an official statement issued to players of the game:
“No new courses, drivers, karts, or gliders will be added following the Battle Tour starting 04/10/2023,” the messages reads. “We hope you continue to enjoy playing Mario Kart Tour.”
While the game is visually similar to the mainline Mario Kart series on Nintendo’s flagship gaming systems, Mario Kart Tour incorporates a more simplified approach to gameplay, alongside a “free-to-play” monetization system. The game also features select racing courses and characters from the mainline console games.
In other mobile gaming news, Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis was recently launched for mobile devices, and serves as a spin-off of the Final Fantasy 7 franchise. Ever Crisis covers several key events from the original FF7 game, although it leans heavily towards in-game micro-transactions.
Going back to Mario Kart Tour, gamers should expect the new changes this October. There’s no word yet on whether or not the game will be shut down as a whole, which should be good news for players who have invested a lot into the game.
