Conceptually, there’s a lot to like about foldable phones. Phones that can become tablets or fold up to become even smaller and pocketable sounds great on paper, but in reality, the price tags of these phones are quite off-putting. Imagine paying close to $2,000 for a foldable phone, no thank you!
It looks like the age of cheaper foldable phones is finally upon us, thanks to Tecno who have recently announced their latest foldable phone – the Phantom V Flip. One of the selling points of the phone is its price tag, where it is expected to be sold at $650 as part of an early bird special. At this price point, no other foldable comes close, but what about its hardware and features?
In terms of display, the Phantom V Flip features an inner foldable display of 6.9-inches with a 120Hz OLED screen, while the outer display has a circular cutout and measures 1.9-inches. It is smaller compared to some of the other flip phones out there, but then again this phone is priced starting at $650, so as long as it’s functional, it’s hard to complain.
As for its performance, the Phantom V Flip is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8050 chipset built on the 6nm process which features an octa-core CPU. It will also come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and will also feature a 4,000mAh battery with support for 45W charging. It’s not particularly fast but it should be good enough.
The outer display is also where the cameras of the phone are housed. The main camera will be a 64MP shooter with an RGWB sensor that has an extra white filter array that can apparently allow more light in. There will also be a 13MP ultrawide camera accompanying the main shooter, and a 32MP camera inside the phone for your selfies.
Overall, it’s a pretty standard mid-range phone, but like we said, the price is really its selling point and if you’ve always wanted a foldable but thought that paying over $1,000 was ridiculous, the Tecno Phantom V Flip is an affordable alternative.
