Foldable phones don’t come cheap, especially those with the smartphone-tablet hybrid form factor where devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 are priced close to the $2,000 mark. Unfortunately for those who are hoping OnePlus will be the exception to that rule will be disappointed.
This is according to a report from WinFuture.de who claims that based on what they know, the upcoming OnePlus Open foldable handset is rumored to cost around $1,700 when it makes its way to the US. As for other markets, we can only assume that it will be priced in a similar range depending on the currency.
This is kind of disappointing as OnePlus started as a company claiming to be the flagship killer, offering phones that were pretty good value for money. We suppose to be fair, foldable display tech is still relatively new and so we imagine that the cost of procuring the components is still pretty high.
Whether or not the OnePlus Open will be able to live up to its price tag remains to be seen. The handset is currently rumored for a launch on the 19th of October, so we’ll have to wait and see if that date pans out and if the rumors about its price are true. In the meantime, what do you think? Is $1,700 a fair price to ask, or were you hoping for something a little cheaper?
