Google Maps for Android finally gets a feature iOS users have had for years

Despite Google basically owning Android, the company has put in quite a bit of effort when it comes to developing features for the competition, namely how sometimes the iOS version of Google’s apps get features that Android users don’t have access to. Thankfully, Google hasn’t forgotten their roots in the latest update to Google Maps for Android.

In the latest update to the app, Google has introduced local weather information for the Android version of Google Maps. This is a feature that iOS users of Google Maps have had access to for the past few years, and it always felt kind of weird that Google never bothered to bring it to the Android version until now.

While Android users could always view the weather using a weather app, having this kind of information available in Google Maps is useful and more efficient, allowing users to check the weather and the location that they’ll be going to so they know if it’s going to rain, if it’s very sunny, or if the temperature might get hotter or colder.

To be fair, given the millions of iOS users out there, this is a market that Google simply cannot ignore, but we’re not sure why it took them almost four years to introduce what seems like such a basic feature. But hey, better late than never, right?
