Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter and renamed it to X, a lot of (controversial) changes have been made, forcing long-time users to quit the platform and seek out alternatives. Now we know just how much damage has been done.
Based on data from SimilarWeb, it seems that X has lost a truckload of visitors since August 2023. The figures claim that in August, X had about 6.4 billion visitors but those numbers dropped to 5.8 billion in September, which is roughly about 600 million visitors that the platform has lost since then.
Now, 600 million is a huge number, but when you consider that the platform still has over 5 billion visitors in September, in the grand scheme of things it’s not too bad. We wouldn’t go as far as calling it a drop in the ocean, but unless X continues to bleed visitors month-over-month, things still look pretty good for the company.
Keep in mind that these are visitors lost, not users, but it does suggest that more people are no longer choosing to visit X. It could be that due to the changes Musk made since he took over that caused some creators to quit, taking their followers and visitors along with them. We’re not sure if this drop in visitors is temporary or if it could be a sign of things going downhill.
Recently, X announced that they will be kicking off a program in New Zealand and the Philippines where they will start charging new and unverified users $1 a month to use the platform and its services.
