PayPal 6.0 update

Which digital wallets can you link with PayPal?

PayPal is one of the most trusted digital payment systems in the world, with millions of people using it to send and receive money throughout the year.

It allows users to link their bank account, debit card and credit card to provide them with an additional layer of security when making payments online.

PayPal can be utilised to facilitate digital payments via a web browser or mobile app, and is suitable for both personal and business use.

It was originally most closely associated with e-Commerce platform eBay, before crossing into the mainstream as a digital payment option in numerous other industries.

For example, it is extremely popular in the UK for making deposits at online casinos, with its heightened security and reliability making it an attractive proposition.

The recent shift towards digital wallets in the iGaming industry is a trend mirrored in most other sectors, with people increasingly moving away from other traditional payment options.

According to the FIS Global Payments Report, digital wallets will be responsible for around a third of all point of sale (POS) spending by 2024, highlighting how popular they have become.

The figures are even more pronounced in eCommerce, with digital wallets projected to facilitate almost 52 percent of online spending by the end of next year.

One of the primary drivers for the growth in popularity is PayPal’s compatibility with other digital wallets, which makes it even easier for people pay for goods and services.

With that in mind, we look at some of the most popular digital wallets which can be linked with PayPal on Android devices.

Google Pay

Your PayPal account can be used with Google Pay in three ways – shopping in an app, checking out in the Chrome mobile browser or buying in any store that accepts Mastercard Contactless Payments.

Just link your PayPal account to Google Pay and then choose PayPal from within the Google Pay wallet anywhere you see the Google Pay button.

Google Pay can be used on Android devices and businesses can link up loyalty rewards with the platform to build long-standing relationships with customers.

Samsung Pay

PayPal can be added to Samsung Pay via the Samsung Pay app. Just tap the ‘Add PayPal’ icon, then ‘Add your PayPal’ and then log in to your PayPal account.

You may need to enter a PIN in the payment terminal to authorise certain payments, which can be set in the Samsung Pay section of the PayPal app or via PayPal’s website.

This functionality is currently only available to customers in the United States, but may be rolled out in other jurisdictions in the future.

Venmo

Venmo is a subsidiary of PayPal and the two digital payment services can be linked in numerous ways, both directly and indirectly.

The easiest way is to link PayPal to Venmo via the settings page on both accounts and then transfer money from PayPal to Venmo.

You can also send money from PayPal to Venmo using the PayPal app on Android devices or by using a credit or debit card.

Wise

If you open a Wise account, you will get local bank details for a selection of currencies and can link these details to PayPal to transfer from PayPal to Wise.

There is a PayPal transfer limit for instant transfers of $25,000 and there are also Wise limits to take into consideration which vary by currency.

When you transfer money from PayPal to Wise the transaction is generally free if there is no currency conversion required, but it may take a few days for the money to arrive.

Monzo

It is feasible to add a Monzo debit card to PayPal via the ‘Wallet’ section of your account or by speaking to a member of the Customer Support team on the telephone.

You will need to ensure you have authentication set up with Monzo, as this is a regulatory requirement of linking the service to PayPal.

There have previously been reports of PayPal rejecting requests to link to online only banks, but this issue appears to have been eradicated.

Revolut

To transfer money from PayPal to Revolut you will need to add your Revolut account details on PayPal. These must match the region where you signed up for a PayPal account.

The initially linking process can take a few days to complete, with PayPal facilitating this with a small deposit transaction which must be verified.

PayPal currently only accepts Revolut accounts from selected European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
