Amazon’s AI could be twice as big as ChatGPT

AI is undoubtedly the trending topic of the year, thanks largely to the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT which has shown us what real AI feels like, as opposed to the digital assistants on our phones and the chatbots that some of us have interacted with on websites.

This is why it doesn’t come as a surprise to learn that Amazon is hoping to launch something of their own. This is according to a report from The Information (paywall) who claims that Amazon is building its own ChatGPT alternative codenamed “Olympus” and that it will be used in various places across Amazon’s products and services.

This includes being used by Amazon’s corporate customers, its online retail store, its digital assistant Alexa, and more. Amazon is going big with Olympus because another report from Reuters has revealed that Olympus will have two trillion parameters versus the one trillion parameters used by ChatGPT.

It will be interesting to see how Amazon’s own AI efforts will fare. If they’re successful, it could revolutionize the company’s Echo series of smart speakers and displays, making them smarter and more intuitive than ever. A recent rumor claims that Amazon is planning to ditch Android and use its own custom OS for its Fire TVs and other devices, so it’s not hard to imagine that Olympus could find its way into them as well.

Amazon hasn’t confirmed anything yet, but apparently Olympus could be officially unveiled on the 27th of November at the AWS re:Invent 2023 event.
