Legacy YouTube Premium subscribers will no longer be able to enjoy the old prices

If you’re new to YouTube Premium, it costs $13.99 a month. But if you joined before the price hike, you were grandfathered into the old price at $9.99 a month. Unfortunately, that looks like it will be coming to an end.

According to a report from 9to5Google, it seems that YouTube has decided that those who were grandfathered into the old prices will no longer enjoy those perks. Starting in January 2024, those users will now have to pay the new prices, or they can always opt out of it and cancel their subscription.

Prior to this, YouTube said that they would allow those who joined early on to keep paying the old prices as a way of showing their appreciation for their loyalty. The company stated that the prices would not increase before December, so it looks like their time is up. The price increase is to be expected.

Many other streaming services like Netflix and Disney+ have also steadily increased their prices over time, so it’s not surprising that YouTube Premium is as well. One of the perks of Premium is that it does away with ads, so if you’d rather not resort to an ad blocker, this could be an option worth exploring.
