When it comes to Wear OS smartwatches, it’s safe to say that Fossil was basically at the forefront of it. The company has multiple brands under its belt and each has created various Wear OS smartwatches, but that could no longer be the case.
According to a recent thread on Reddit, some users are claiming that they have spoken to Fossil employees working at the store and have been told that the company has no plans to produce new Wear OS smartwatches ever again. Adding fuel to the fire is a report from 9to5Google in which they note that Fossil seems to be running a fire sale in which they are massively discounting their current Wear OS smartwatches, presumably in a bid to clear whatever remaining inventory they have.
The report also points out how it has been about two years since the last big Wear OS generation release from Fossil, Gen 7, and there have been no signs that it is going to be launched anytime soon either. The report also notes how Fossil could be feeling left out of the loop, especially with the major Wear OS 3 revamp that was made together with Samsung.
Considering how Fossil was such a big supporter of Wear OS prior to this, maybe the company felt snubbed by this and decided to call it quits. The company has not replied for a request by 9to5Google for comment, so we’ll have to wait and see how this plays out and if the rumors are true, or if Fossil could still be working on something behind the scenes.
