The Google Pixel 8 is one of the best smartphones of 2023. It features a custom Google Tensor G3 chipset, amazing cameras with AI-powered software, and of course, the most optimized Android experience right out of the box.
The only problem is that if you break it, it might be a costly repair process. This is according to a report from 9to5Google in which they discovered that the replacement parts for the Pixel 8 appear to cost more than its predecessor, the Pixel 7.
For example, replacing the screen will cost $159.99, versus the $139.99 for the Pixel 7. The price of the battery appears to remain the same at $42.99, so that’s a good thing, but the biggest jump is the cameras. The Pixel 7’s main shooter costs $89.99 to replace, but the Pixel 8 costs $142.99, almost double. The ultra wide camera also saw a price increase from $42.99 to $62.99.
As for the Pixel 8 Pro, the cameras are sold together as a trio so if you break or damage one, you’ll have to replace the entire module which costs $199.99, versus the $152.99 on the Pixel 7 Pro. While we doubt that most users will have to replace their cameras, it’s something to consider if you’re planning on getting the phone, or if you already own it, you might want to consider investing in a more robust case to better protect it.
