Following several product announcements for the upcoming Consumer Electronics Showcase (CES) 2024 in Las Vegas, LG recently announced that it will also be holding a private tech demo for major auto brands during the event to introduce its new vehicular smart platform, developed in collaboration with Magna, a company that specializes in mobility tech.
Originally started last year, the demo will feature a new cross domain platform integrating Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), Automated Driving (AD) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) technologies. The two companies integrated a cross domain cockpit computing system into a single System on Chip (SoC), which in theory should prove to be cost-efficient for OEMs in the long-run.
With that being said, LG says that this module will be able to support multiple IVI systems and ADAS/AD domain integration, as well as handle various Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) requirements in a more compact package. It will also be compatible with a Human Machine Interface (HMI) to provide drivers and passengers with seamless and intuitive user experience with elements such as advanced automotive displays, digital clusters, and Augmented Reality-Head Up Displays (AR-HUD) for example.
Between the CES demo and actual market availability however, it might take a while before we see such hardware on the road – LG says that 2027-series vehicles are expected to be the first ones to carry this kind of tech onboard.
