ASUS confirmed in 2023 that they would be releasing a new ROG Phone in the form of the ROG Phone 8. Sure enough, they have, and the new phone has brought along a bunch of changes over the previous models.
Right away, one of the main differences you might notice is in the design of the phone. The previous ROG Phone 7 had a more garish, gamer-y design. ASUS hasn’t strayed too far from that motif, but it definitely looks like they toned it down a bit. Now it looks a bit more stylish and grown-up.
The ASUS ROG Phone 8 still comes with Aura RGB lighting that lights up the logo of the phone. The Pro model includes an AniMe Vision MiniLED display that allows further customization with your own animations. However, it presents a much more toned-down appearance compared to previous launches.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset powers the ASUS ROG Phone 8. Users will also be able to configure the phone with up to 24GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of storage. As for the display, we’re talking about the use of a 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with an FHD+ resolution and a 165Hz adaptive refresh rate. The phone’s brightness can also go up to 2,500 nits.
On the camera side of things, the ROG Phone 8 will feature a 50MP f/1.9 main shooter with a built-in 6-axis hybrid gimbal stabilizer. It is accompanied by a 13MP ultrawide and a 32MP f/2.4 telephoto lens, with a 32MP front-facing shooter rounding things off.
As a gaming phone, it incorporates gaming features like AirTriggers built into the side of the frame, usable as shoulder buttons during gameplay. ASUS has also announced a new AeroActive Cooler X accessory that will help keep the phone cool during intense gaming sessions.
Last but not least, the handset will be packing a 5,500mAh battery with support for 65W charging. The ASUS ROG Phone 8 will be priced starting at $1,099.99 and will be released in February for the UK and Europe. US availability will be announced at a later date.
