EA Announces Layoffs, Will Cut Around 670 Jobs

0

It looks like the videogame industry just can’t catch a break – following a massive wave of layoffs from several gaming studios in the past month, Electronic Arts recently announced that it will be cutting 5% of its workforce, which amounts to around 670 jobs. The announcement was made by CEO Andrew Wilson in a memo originally shared to employees. Part of his statement reads:

“… we are streamlining our company operations to deliver deeper, more connected experiences for fans everywhere that build community, shape culture, and grow fandom.”

“In this time of change, we expect these decisions to impact approximately 5 percent of our workforce. I understand this will create uncertainty and be challenging for many who have worked with such dedication and passion and have made important contributions to our company. While not every team will be impacted, this is the hardest part of these changes, and we have deeply considered every option to try and limit impacts to our teams.”

This reduction of personnel follows that of Sony’s, which was announced just recently – the Japanese entertainment giant has moved forward with its plan to lay off around 900 people, which comprises around 8% of its workforce – in addition, Sony’s entire PlayStation London studio will be shut down as well.
