Qualcomm’s expertise with its Arm-based chipsets has resulted in a lot of hype and fanfare around the company’s Snapdragon brand, even more so with the announcement of the Snapdragon X series chips, which are meant for Windows-powered machines.
With that in mind, Qualcomm has expanded its Snapdragon X lineup with the introduction of the X Plus, which the company says brings exceptional performance, long battery life, and advanced on-device AI for Windows laptops.
The Snapdragon X Plus packs a 10-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU and the industry’s fastest NPU (Neural Processing Unit) with 45 TOPS, ideal for AI-powered applications. This focus on AI reflects current tech trends and allows for features like code generation and real-time captioning.
Of course, the new chip is optimized for productivity on the go – the X Plus supports 5G and Wi-Fi 7 with lag-free connectivity. There’s also support for fast-switching between devices with Snapdragon SeamlessTM, and high-fidelity audio with Snapdragon SoundTM. Security is also prioritized with built-in secure processing and Microsoft Secured-core PC support.
Qualcomm showcased the NPU’s power with AI features like on-device code generation in Visual Studio Code and real-time captioning for live streams. Folks looking to see it in action can expect Snapdragon X Plus laptops to launch mid-2024, although no specific product models were announced yet.
