The First PlayStation Emulator Arrives for iOS

It took a while, but it looks like iOS users will finally be able to enjoy retro PlayStation games on their devices thanks to the arrival of a new emulator on the app store. Dubbed “Gamma Emulator,” the app allows users to run PS1 games on compatible Apple devices.

Similar to Delta emulator, Gamma provides on-screen controls with a dedicated skin to simulate the look of a controller. The emulator also offers several features including save states, save file back-up and syncing, custom controller skins, and support for game cover artwork.

With that said though, users have cited some issues such as connectivity problems with wireless physical controllers and occasional app craches, and have questioned the need for location access. With regards to the latter, the app’s developer states that the app’s request for location access is related with a Google SDK requirement.

With that being said, the app follows the likes of Delta emulator which allows users to run older Nintendo system titles. Apple recently changed its developer guidelines and policies to allow emulators via the App Store, a move that iOS users have long yearned for.
