Google Password Manager will let you share passwords

One of the tenets of keeping your accounts secure is to use a strong password. Another is to never share your passwords with others. But in case you have to share a password, then you might be interested to learn that Google Password Manager will now let you share your login credentials with others.

Google confirmed that the feature was in the works earlier this year. Now it looks like it has rolled out as part of the May 2024 Google Play Services update. With this new feature, users will be able to share passwords stored in the Google Password Manager with other users. But there is a catch.

Instead of sharing your passwords willy-nilly with anyone under the sun, you will only be able to share it with people listed under your family group. Presumably the idea here is that the people you place under your family group are people you trust the most. When you share a password, it will appear in the recipient’s Password Manager. This is more secure than simply copying and pasting the actual username and password that can be seen by others.

This could come in handy in a variety of situations. For example, you could use it to access streaming services. It can also be used if a family member needs to do some online banking but they’re overseas and they cannot login due to geo-restrictions. In any case, the feature is there if you want to use it.
