In an official announcement earlier today, Sony finally confirmed that it will be rolling out direct Discord support for players on the PS5. While Discord voice chat has been previously available on the console, this is the first time that users will be able to access it without relying on the Discord PC or mobile apps to initiate the connection.
To access the feature, players will need to select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and then choose the Discord server or DM group that they’d like to join, and then selecting their preferred voice channel. Players will receive more info once connected such as who is already in the channel chatting, and notifications for when another Discord user calls them.
Sony adds that it will gradually roll out the feature over the coming weeks, starting with players in Japan and Asia, followed by Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and finally in America. It should be noted that players will need to update their console to the latest system software, and their accounts for PlayStation Network and Discord must be linked.
