Motorola made quite a splash when they unveiled the Razr flip phone way back in the day. The company has since revived the brand and given it a modern makeover by leveraging that flip form factor and turning it into a foldable phone. Now the company is back with a couple of new models in the form of the 2024 Motorola Razr and Razr+.
The handset features a massive 4-inch external display and a foldable display that when unfolded measures 6.9-inches. According to Motorola, it uses Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus and can also withstand water submersion of depths up to 1.5m and up to 30 minutes long. We wouldn’t go swimming with it, but it’s there just in case. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. It also comes with a 4,000mAh battery with support for 15W wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging.
Also, as expected, Motorola is introducing a bunch of AI capabilities to its smartphones. This includes Moto AI camera features such as Photo Enhancement Engine that helps boosts a photo’s colors and clarity, Adaptive Stabilization that can adjust the stabilization levels, Action Shot, Long Exposure, and Super Zoom, just to name a few.
Users can also access the Google Gemini app directly from the external display. They’ll also be given access to Gemini Advanced for 3 months.
If you’re looking for a relatively inexpensive model, then the 2024 Motorola Razr could be a good choice.
In terms of hardware, it uses a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X chipset. Its internal foldable display measures the same 6.9-inches as the Razr+, but the external display is slightly smaller at 3.6-inches. It does, however, pack a slightly larger 4,200mAh battery with 30W TurboPower charging support.
While it might use a different chipset, users can rest assured that all the AI features we mentioned earlier for the Razr+ will also be available on the Razr.
The Razr+ will be priced higher at $999.99 with pre-orders from T-Mobile, AT&T, Motorola, Amazon, and Best Buy going live on the 10th of July. The Razr is priced at $699.99 and will be available for pre-order from T-Mobile starting on the 10th of July. It will also be available for purchase fully unlocked on the 24th of July from Motorola, Amazon, and Best Buy.
As you might have noticed, Motorola’s foldables are slightly more affordable compared to the competition. This seems to have worked in Motorola’s favor. The company now boasts a 75% market share when it comes to flip phones. This is an increase of 300% in the category from the previous year and a 28% growth year-over-year.
The company is now the #3 brand and the #2 Android brand in the US market.
