The brightness of our phone displays isn’t something we really think about. That is until we walk under direct sunlight and we can’t see a damn thing unless we cup our hands around our phone’s displays. That shouldn’t be an issue with the upcoming Pixel 9 phones from Google as they will apparently get much brighter displays.
This is according to a report from Android Authority. The publication received a tip from a source inside Google who told them that the Pixel 9 series will get much brighter displays than its predecessors. As you can see in the image below, the entire lineup will be much brighter than the Pixel 8 series.
The base Pixel 9 model will have 1,800 nits of peak brightness, a jump from the 1,400 nits from the base Pixel 8. The Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL will also have 2,050 nits which is about 450 nits more than the Pixel 8 Pro. This means that users who prefer having a brighter display will have /more range to choose from. It will also make it easier to see under direct sunlight.
It is possible that the increase in brightness is thanks to the use of the Samsung M14 OLED panels. In any case, Google should provide us with the official details soon. The company will be announcing the new Pixel 9 series in an event this August.
