If you’re one of the billions of people around the world that uses WhatsApp, there’s a good chance you might have received messages from unknown accounts. Most of the time, these are spam messages and they’re annoying. However, an upcoming update to the app will block those messages for you.
This is according to a report from WABetaInfo who discovered the upcoming feature. Basically, if you receive a WhatsApp message from unknown accounts, the messages will be blocked. Now obviously receiving messages from unknown accounts isn’t always related to spam. There are some people or businesses whose number you haven’t saved yet.
According to the description of the feature, it will only block messages if they exceed a certain volume. This means that spam accounts, who usually send out mass messages, will be impacted. Businesses or individuals whose contacts you haven’t saved yet aren’t affected.
WhatsApp already has certain measures in place to block spam messages. However, this new feature gives users a bit more control, as opposed to relying on WhatsApp’s own algorithms. There’s no word on when this feature will be released, but if it’s in the latest beta, it shouldn’t be too long. So if you do receive a lot of spam on WhatsApp, this upcoming feature is worth looking forward to.
