Back in 2023 with the launch of the Pixel 8 Pro, Google introduced a temperature sensor in the phone. Google announced earlier this year that following FDA approval, the feature could now be used to measure human body temperature. The good news is that if you live in Europe, the Pixel Thermometer app’s functionality is now available in the region as well.
For those unfamiliar, the feature originally launched with the Pixel 8 Pro, but it was kind of useless at that time. This is because the app could only be used to measure the temperature of objects and food. It was an odd choice, but presumably Google was waiting FDA approval before making the body temperature feature available.
When it did eventually become available, it was only available in the US. This is usually the case with health/medical related features as they need to be cleared by a local regulatory body.
According to Google, the Pixel Thermometer feature is available in Europe and the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the United States.
Users will need to have an active SIM or eSIM in their phone for it to work, and also use it with one of the supported languages.
