For the past several years, Samsung has been dominating the foldable phone space. But it looks like the company is set to create a new category of smartphones, this time in the form of rollable devices. In fact, Samsung is apparently gearing up to launch a rollable phone in 2025.
This is according to a report from The Elec who claims that this upcoming Samsung rollable device could feature a 12.4-inch display when fully rolled out. This would make it larger than all the other foldable phones out there, including the new Huawei Mate XT which is a triple-screen foldable that unfolds to 10.2-inches.
The concept of rollable phones aren’t new. In fact, several years ago, LG was poised to launch such a device, but the company ultimately called it quits in the mobile space. Since then, we’ve seen several concepts from other handset makers such as Tecno and Lenovo. We’ve also seen some patents from Samsung in the past that hinted at their plans.
It will be interesting to see Samsung pick up where LG left off. Will they be able to make it work? That remains to be seen. While we’re excited, we are a bit worried about price. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced close to the $2,000 mark. So we’d hate to think how much a phone that can expand to 12.4-inches could cost.
