For the longest time ever, Apple and Samsung were basically the top dogs in the smartphone market. Both companies occupied the first and second positions, but it looks like Apple has lost its spot in the second place. This position was stolen by none other than Xiaomi.
This is according to data from Counterpoint Research where it was revealed that Xiaomi managed to edge out Apple and took second place in terms of the largest number of smartphones sold. Interestingly enough, this is also the highest Xiaomi has ever climbed since August 2021.
One thing to note is that this time of the year, Apple sales are quite slow. This is because it is around this time that Apple announces new iPhones. As a result, most customers tend to hold off on purchases to see if the new iPhones are worth upgrading to. It remains to be seen if things will pick up again in the following months, or if Apple has permanently lost the second position to Xiaomi.
To Xiaomi’s credit, the company has been killing it in the market. The company’s latest smartphones are pretty incredible, and with Chinese OEMs like Huawei out of the picture, at least for the US and the EU, it gives Xiaomi a chance to shine. They’re still pretty far from Samsung’s position in first place, but one can always hope.
