We suppose it was only a matter of time – not too long after Sony announced a special-edition 30th anniversary of the PlayStation 5 Pro, it looks like the console is now sold out, with a large chunk of sales snagged up by scalpers. Listings have been spotted with ridiculously high markups, with some going for as much as £10,000.
Buyers online immediately noticed “sold out” messages when attempting to purchase the PS5 Pro Console Anniversary bundle, resulting in vain attempts in purchasing the console via PlayStation Direct in the UK. It should be noted that the scalper listings are not for on-hand console bundles, but are instead for their pre-order listing – yes, people are asking for thousands of pounds/dollars just to sell their pre-order.
The PlayStation’s 30th anniversary release was originally announced with a series of specially-themed consoles and accessories that pay homage to Sony’s grandaddy console – this essentially means a color motif in the signature grey look of the OG PlayStation, complete with the tri-color PS logo as well.
Big console launches – and in this case, limited edition runs – are often frequented by scalpers looking to make a quick buck from buyers desperate enough to pay much higher prices for products. Only 12,300 units of the PS5 Pro variant will be available, with a launch scheduled for November 21.
