The new iPhone 16 is here. It is Apple’s latest iPhone and its most powerful smartphone to date, but it seems that it could also be the company’s biggest flop in years. This is according to the lead times on the devices, which are considerably shorter compared to its predecessor.
According to the data from Morgan Stanley, the base iPhone 16 has a lead time of 9 days versus the 14 days of the iPhone 15. The iPhone 16 Plus has a lead time of 7.9 days versus 13.9 days, the iPhone 16 Pro has a lead time of 18.5 days instead of 32.5 days, and the iPhone 16 Pro Max has a lead time of 25.5 days versus 43.5 days for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
It is possible that over the years, Apple has managed to more accurately predict demand, or they might have expanded production capabilities. This is one possibility that could explain the drop in lead times. Alternatively, it could simply be the fact that the iPhone 16 isn’t a particularly exciting upgrade.
It is a powerful handset with some interesting new features. However, features like AI aren’t even shipping with the handset yet. Apple made such a huge deal about its Apple Intelligence features but the fact that we aren’t seeing it yet makes it a hard sell. Only time will tell if later on sales might pick up, but for now, it doesn’t seem promising.
