Don’t discount the Exynos 2500 for the Galaxy S25 yet
Recently, there have been reports suggesting that Samsung could go all-in with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for the Galaxy S25 series. Prior to that, it was expected that Samsung would continue using a mix of both Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets for the phone. But now a new report suggests that the Exynos 2500 could be back in the mix for the Galaxy S25 series.
This is according to Korean publication Hankyung who claims that Samsung is still deciding if the Exynos 2500 should be used. An earlier report claimed that the low yield for the Exynos 2500 chipset is one of the reasons why the company could go all-in with Qualcomm. Now this report suggests that Samsung is still evaluating the situation and will make their decision by the end of the month.
One of the reasons why Samsung is still keen to use the Exynos 2500 could be due to costs. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to be considerably more expensive than its predecessor. Also, if Samsung is expected to use an exclusive overclocked model, it could add to the costs. Putting Exynos into the mix could help the company keep costs down and maintain their profit margins.
However, over the years, Samsung’s Exynos chipsets have typically fallen short compared to Qualcomm’s offerings. This has led to a lot of customer dissatisfaction, where customers are paying the same price but getting (on paper) “inferior” hardware. Either way, take it with a grain of salt but we’ll have to wait until 2025 to see if the Exynos 2500 makes it into the Galaxy S25 lineup.
