Motorola patents rollable phone with multiple fingerprint sensors

0

Motorola is no stranger to foldable phones, but rollable phones? That’s new. The company has shown off concepts of such a device in the past, and it seems that it is a concept that they’re not quite ready to let go of just yet. According to recent patents, Motorola has come up with a rollable phone that has multiple built-in fingerprint sensors.

At the moment, in-display fingerprint sensors are limited in the sense that they only work where they are placed. This means that users will need to authenticate themselves on the same spot each and every time. It’s not a big deal, but being able to unlock your phone anywhere on the screen would be more convenient.

This Motorola patent suggests that the company would integrate multiple in-display fingerprint sensors across the rollable phone. Given that rollable phones offer a unique experience where they can be unfurled or rolled up, having multiple sensors will give users more options when it comes to unlocking their phone.

Obviously having something like a facial recognition system would be better, but there are some who prefer fingerprints. Note that this is only a patent and there’s no indication that Motorola will ever create such a device, but it’s interesting to see what the company could be cooking up.
