It came a bit later than expected, but today is the day for future owners of the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE. The latest addition to the Incredible family is now available online and in stores from Verizon for $149.99 on a new, two-year contract (a $50 discount or rebate applies). As its name states clearly, this is the first Droid Incredible to sport LTE connectivity, and it also carries the speedy dual-core Snapdragon S4 chipset. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE gets all the trappings of an Android 4.0/HTC Sense 4 device, including Beats Audio and ImageSense. We’ll have a full review headed your way shortly.

I want this phone but I do not want to loose my unlimited data….what to do,,,what to do…..
Well, at an unsubsidized retail price of $500, that doesn’t seem too bad.
The problem with buying a Verizon phone unsubsidized is, unlike a GSM phone, you’re not free to go to whichever carrier you want. You’re stuck with Verizon (unless you consider Cricket an option, which I don’t).
That’s true but if the dilemma here is the ability to keep unlimited data, it’s really the only option. Oh, I guess there’s also the option of waiting for the phone to hit the used market as well.
Also, for me personally, I worked it out that with my level of data consumption (about 4-5GB a month) I would break even at the end of two years if I bought a phone priced around $650. Run the numbers for your own situation but I’d be surprised if it wasn’t something similar.
True, however if VZW doesn’t change their plans by time I need to upgrade again (20 months from now), I will be going to another carrier.
Yeah, paying retail isn’t an option right now.
I just got this phone this morning. My Wife and I are on the same plan and by switching to the Share Everything plan, splitting a 4Gb plan, we’re now SAVING $35 a month over the previous plan which was unlimited data and allowances for text and talk. The fact is, I barely use a Gb a month, and my Wife uses barely twice what I do. I think once people realize they don’t NEED to use the ungodly amount of data they’re using, they’ll fit perfectly into one of the share plans and actually save money.
Naturally it seems, people would just want to vote you down, but this plan works for some and not others. Whatever. If it saves you money, that is great. Great coverage with a lower monthly bill. That is awesome.
Wow Mathew, work for Verizon? The unfortunate truth is that some people do need to use a lot of data every month, and there is no longer a plan on Verizon that offers enough data for me. The closest one is $100. Now my wife on the other hand, only averages half a gig a month.
No, ha ha, don’t work for Verizon. I’m just realistic and I understand that data isn’t free and when everything is 4G no carrier will continue to offer unlimited data. I scaled back my data a year ago and learned to operate under 1Gb a month. I think my most was 3Gb but still, I just made smart choices in how I use my phone and what apps I use. Because I made subtle changes, we easily fit in a very affordable data plan, and it works great. Once I saw the prices, I was happy because I knew our bill was going to go down. I know not everyone CAN see it as a positive thing, but I think once all the carriers change to similar structures you’ll see a lot less complaining and a lot more changes to how people choose to use data. Most people ‘want’ to use 10+Gb but not everyone ‘needs’ to use 10+Gb.
I totally agree with you. I do things like set apps to only update over WiFi and only download large files via WiFi. I am also not a music or video streamer, so i don’t use that much data to begin with. Plus, I don’t use my phone as my home internet connection like some people do…..which Verizon never intended it to be used for. Even with 2 smartphones, 1 tablet, 1 hotspot (yes, you are supposed to pay for this feature), we save something like $65/month even with the 8GB plan. These plans can easily save money for people with multiple devices…..not so much for 1 device.

Absolutely…or if the timing had to be now…then a lower price point. This release reminds me of the one in November where the Samsung Nexus came out around the same time as the HTC Rezound

When will HTC learn? 1700mAh on an LTE phone? This is way too small. The major reason I got rid of the HTC Rezound was the battery size (1620mAh). LTE is such a battery drain. 2100mAh on my GNex is not enough. Take a lesson from Motorola and the RAZR MAXX. Bigger battery on LTE device is good!!!
the point isn’t that people don’t “need” 10gb+ data per month. the point is the overall smack in the face. Have you heard verizon losing revenue over the past 4 quarters with unlimited data? with hundreds of thousands of android activations per DAY a decent majority of those must be with Verizon (who, in my opinion. has the best coverage and service, although that’s about to change it seems). Even without tiered data. that’s $30/mo per individual. Is verizon losing money? no. are they really sacrificing to provide people with unlimited? no. the issue i have here is that 2gb is MUCH smaller than many people use on 3g phones, not to mention LTE. and making 2gb a $30 plan that is blatantly requiring people to change their lifestyles or pony up massive amounts of cash to retain their freedom. i don’t mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist but where will it end? this year 2gb is $30, what happens in 2013? 2014? if we continue at the current rate with paychecks shrinking, gas and food prices rising.. the “cellular phone” will again become a luxury that few can afford.
like Darin said, i’m still happy with my incredible 2 right now but if verizon doesn’t shape up soon and figure out a better way to increase revenue, then i’m moving.
I agree with all you mentioned, except you are wrong about ”
2gb is MUCH smaller than many people use on 3g phones”. It seems that way here in the forums, but right now, avg user uses 904mb. It seems many people will save money with the new plan…but may not see it that way a year+ from now as everyone starts using more data with more streaming services, along with cloud services, etc.
