OnLive working to add Nexus 7 support for its universal controller

7

The Nexus 7 is a very nice gaming option with its Tegra 3 option, and with the growing need for dedicated gamepads in the Google Play Store we are always happy to have new options to choose from. OnLive’s option, their standard universal controller, is a very desirable one with its console-quality controller.

Unfortunately there’s no official support for it on the Nexus 7 just yet. OnLive wants to let us know they’re working on bringing that support sometime soon, but in the mean time it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try anyway. And even if OnLive drags their feet on the issue we bet the development community is going to find a way to get the thing fully supported on the 7 inch tablet. [GottaBeMobile]

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

Nexus 7 now shipping to the UK, too

  1. There is a lot of “options” in that first paragraph.

  2. I don’t use Onlive much, but this may change my mind, especially for travel. I really like the idea packing only a controller and my N7 (maybe an N10 someday?) for entertainment on trips instead of my laptop. Now, if only the N7 was MHL compatible, we’d really have something.

I’m guessing, though, that I can get my PS3 controller working on N7 and use that to control OnLive games, right?

  3. If onlive committed to making this controller work all across the tablet I’d be all over it; as it stands now it sounds like it only really works with onlive and outside the app it’s janky if it even works at all (from what i’ve read). I’ll stick with my ps3 controller. It’s kinda funny that’s it’s called a universal controller but it only works with onlive (yes, i know they mean universal devices, not apps)

  4. I never used a controller on a tablet before… But wouldn’t it be a little weird? It would be one thing to hook it to a TV via HDMI out, but the N7 doesn’t have HDMI out.

  5. All I use OnLive for is spectating other games and giving ’em thumbsdown for FAILS. :) I need to buy a controller one of these days so I can play… maybe the funjoy or namkos(sp)

  6. I’ll just use my PS3 controller. I’m pretty satisfied with that. LoL!!

    1. What games are compatible? I tried playing Borderlands – the only Onlive game I own – and it says it wasn’t compatible on Android. Doesn’t seem like there is a list of compatible games anywhere.
