In an awesome move by Good Guy Google, they just revealed on the Liberation Blog a new feature for YouTubers who want to liberate their uploaded videos from Google’s video service. Starting today, Google is allowing users to download the original video files they’ve uploaded to YouTube, in their original, uncompressed, pre-transcoded quality.
You may be thinking to yourself that this was a feature always there, but not quite. Previously, YouTube only allowed users to download videos in their post-uploaded, crappy quality, MP4 format. Not quite the same. Can’t help but wonder what will stop Google users from dumping all their home videos onto YouTube as a sort of video backup service, knowing full well they’ll be easily redownloadable in their original quality 50 years from now? Guess I’d better get started.

For me this is worse than Apple Maps because I pay for these movies that I can’t watch on my Google TV.

They need to be a little more cautious on how they word titles. I was under the impression they where talking about “Google Now.”
Yeah it kind of threw me off until I realized every word was capitalized. What really let me down though was I was hoping this mean anyone can do it. However, it looks as if only the original uploaded will be able to do this.
I’m assuming 3rd party addons for browser would take advantage of this and let you download that exact same file.
Title made me think anyone could now download youtube videos :( boohoo. I’ll stick with my YouTube converter I suppose.
And your comment about home videos and it being a backup service. Do they give you an option to have private videos only available on your account. If not who wants ALL of their home videos public for everyone to see.
