The LG Nexus 4 seems to be receiving a surprise upgrade in parts of the world. Particularly, folks in Brazil and Malaysia are reporting that Android 4.2.2 is being pre-installed on latest runs of the handset. We imagine the incremental upgrade won’t seem to add much that users can put a finger on, but there are sure to be some under-the-hood and subtle changes and bug fixes Google felt required a firmware upgrade.
About 1,000 units are said to becoming out of a Brazilian factory with this particular image installed, and a review unit sent to a Malaysian journalist is said to be seeing the upgrade on their handset, as well. We’re not sure when Google’s expecting to roll this upgrade out to handsets — heck, we’re not even 100% sure this is true — but if factories are shipping the Nexus 4 with these images then it surely can’t be long.
While the Nexus 4’s list of noticeable bugs has shrunk significantly following the Android 4.2.1 update there are still a few stragglers which need squashing. Nothing experience breaking has reared its ugly head, but if there’s a bug to be fixed then we definitely want to see it fixed.
Of course, some people would be happy just being able to get a Nexus 4, but as it stands the device is still sold out in the Google Play Store. Bummer. Well, hopefully by the time they’re available again they’ll start shipping with this latest firmware ready to go.

Wonder what bug fixes it has in store.

So it was true
Here in Brazil, devices with stock Android come with a modified Dialer app as ANATEL, national agency that regulates Telecommunication, requires some specific behaviors.
But don’t take that as the reason behind this new version, as that modification usually comes under a different build, but with the same version.
This is a REAL update.
Can’t wait to see the device hitting the local stores…
I still have not seen much word from google regarding the buzzing/noisy earpiece. On 2G networks it is bad enough that I hear the GSM bup bup bup noises in the earpiece. – Long story short if anyone else is suffering from this issue I doubt 4.2.2 is the cure, save for some crazy baseband update.
Screw Brazil and Malaysia. Sell me one, I’m in the USA.
wow….
Wait up! I want one too! I’m from Canada!
I must be one of the lucky ones, I really haven’t seen any of the bugs being reported for this phone. All the calls I’ve made sound far better than my GNex did, and the battery lasts me through the day. It does get warm at times, but I can live with that.
Same here.
Wait, what? Factory in Brazil?
AFAIK, the Nexus 4 is not being sold in Brazil – not yet anyway.
Anybody have any reports of the contrary? Technically, the phone can’t even be called Nexus down here – there’s a copyright on the name held by some other non-communication company. That’s why the Older, Galaxy Nexus phone came branded as Galaxy X.
I’d be really interested in an Nexus 4 in Brazil. I wonder if LG has plans to sell it down here?
Guess it was announced yesterday by a Local Blog that they started “manufacturing” those here in Brazil yesterday. (01/11/2013). Interesting. I’ll keep an eye peeled.
I think it’s time Google says screw lg and just brings out an early release of a nexus 5 made by a much more capable partner.
Right? LG killed the Nexus worse than Verizon. I never thought I would say anybody was worse than Verizon in regards to the Nexus program.
The only problem LG had was Google not ordering enough. I own both a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 4. The N4 is leagues ahead of even the international version of the G Nexus. The build quality is better than any other smartphone including the Lumia 920 (heavy brick) and the scratch prone-too light Iphone 5
Agreed, they have serious availability issues, which I suspect will be resolved hopefully sooner than later. While it’s more extreme that before, it’s not like the nexus line hasn’t had availability issues in the past that were overcome.
I am lucky and I already have mine, so that makes me a little more forgiving. it’s a spectacular phone.
So far it seems I got a good phone, no noticeable bugs that I can worry about. I’ve even kept my phone on the stock ROM and kernel because everything is just good.
Agreed completely. First phone I haven’t rooted. I went to one day, but realized the benefits of root over stock 4.2.1 don’t outweigh wiping the phone. That’s how good it is.
Maybe when Ubuntu comes out for the N4.
Wake me up when they are selling a CDMA/LTE version.
R.I.P. phinn…. :'(
Can the Play store get some more stock in soon….
No one clearly noticed the updated baseband. It went from .33 to .44
Really? The phone is not even in malaysia yet….lol

This had better fix the effing Bluetooth Audio. It’s disgustingly crackly.
“Nothing experience breaking” well aside from the frequent drop out of google connectivity when the radios go grey. This happens to the Nexus 4 and the Galaxy Nexus. Also 4.2.1 completely breaks bluetooth on the Galaxy Nexus! I really hope they fix this in 4.2.2!!
When is it coming to the U.S.?
Android 4.2.2? :O
