HTC officially announces the HTC One [VIDEO]

74

HTC has just announced its HTC One smartphone, a 4.7 inch 1080p HD Super LCD 3 device that is outfitted with Qualcomm’s very powerful 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, a 2 megapixel front camera, a 2,300mAh battery, NFC, front-facing stereo speakers that HTC is calling BoomSound, Android 4.1.2 (4.2.2 is already in the works) with HTC Sense 5 and more.

On the hardware front, HTC took a lot of time and care to design the One with a process it’s calling “zero gap.” It’s an all-metal construction that cuts down on every corner possible, allowing HTC to fit a lot of great stuff into a very slim, sleek and light package.

With HTC Sense 5, the company is introducing BlinkFeed, an RSS-style look into your social life and interests. You simply swipe all the way to the left of your home-screen and BlinkFeed occupies its own pane. It’s not a widget, per-se: think of the iOS search screen or Samsung’s Page Buddies. It’s really cool stuff, and it’s there if you need it (but not in the way if you don’t). Everything — from your latest photos, to your mom’s Facebook status, and even your favorite stories from Phandroid — will occupy BlinkFeed as the HTC One learns what is important to you and will deliver that content in a very nice way. More than 1,400 news sources will be included, and over 10,000 articles per day will be at your fingertips.

HTC’s also debuting some new innovations in the camera department, and its new camera suite is called Zoe. Using the footage and images taken with the 13MP “UltraPixel” camera sensor, Zoe can take your photos and video and automatically combine them into a dynamic presentation with professional-looking cuts, transitions and effects, and set to very nice background audio. You can specify certain themes for Zoe to use to give your creation a certain mood.

Alongside all of that, HTC has improved the camera experience with better panoramic photos, object removal, multi-axis optical image stabilization, and more.

Finally, enter HTC Sense TV — a new feature that will allow you to use your phone as an interactive TV guide and remote control. Because an infrared transmitter is built into the power button, you can control most modern televisions as you would any remote, and the software will utilize information from the cloud to make it easy to see what’s on and ready for your viewing pleasure.

The device looks quite tasty and HTC put on quite the presentation to unveil it, but we’re more worried about getting our hands-on time with this than anything else. Stay tuned for further updates, and be sure to stick with us for our hands-on videoRead on for full press details.

INTRODUCING THE NEW HTC ONE®, A NEW PERSPECTIVE ON SMARTPHONES

HTC BlinkFeed, HTC Zoe and HTC BoomSound Deliver HTC One’s Unprecedented New Smartphone Experience

London and New York City, February 19, 2013 — HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today announced its new flagship smartphone, the new HTC One.  Crafted with a distinct zero-gap aluminum unibody, the new HTC Oneintroduces HTC BlinkFeed™, HTC Zoe™ and HTC BoomSound™, key new HTC Sense® innovations that reinvent the mobile experience and set a new standard for smartphones.

“People today immerse themselves in a constant stream of updates, news and information. Although smartphones are one of the main ways we stay in touch with the people and information we care about, conventional designs have failed to keep pace with how people are actually using them,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “A new, exciting approach to the smartphone is needed and with the new HTC One, we have re-imagined the mobile experience from the ground up to reflect this new reality.”

HTC BlinkFeed: A personal live stream right on the home screen
At the center of the new HTC One experience is HTC BlinkFeedHTC BlinkFeed is a bold new experience that transforms the home screen into a single live stream of personally relevant information such as social updates, entertainment and lifestyle updates, news and photos with immersive images so that people no longer need to go to separate applications to find out what’s happening.  HTC BlinkFeed aggregates the freshest content from the most relevant and interesting sources, giving it to people at a glance, all in one place, without the need to jump between multiple applications and web sites.

To enable this new dynamic approach to the smartphone, HTC will provide both local and global content from more than 1,400 media sources with more than 10,000 articles per day from some of the most innovative media companies, such as the AOL family of media properties, ESPN, MTV, Vice Media, Cool Hunting, Reuters and many others. HTC UltraPixel Camera with HTC Zoe

The breakthrough HTC UltraPixel Camera redefines how people capture, relive and share their most precious moments.HTC Zoe gives people the ability to shoot high-res photos that come to life in three-second snippets.  These Zoes, photos and videos are then displayed in a unique way that brings the gallery to life and transforms the traditional photo gallery of still images into a motion gallery of memories.  It also automatically creates integrated highlight films from each event comprised of Zoes, photos and videos set to music with professionally designed cuts, transitions and effects. These highlight videos can be remixed or set to different themes, and can be easily shared on social networks, email and other services.

To enable this innovative camera experience, HTC developed a custom camera that includes a best-in-class f/2.0 aperture lens and a breakthrough sensor with UltraPixels that gather 300 percent more light than traditional smartphone camera sensors.  This new approach also delivers astounding low-light performance and a variety of other improvements to photos and videos. In addition, the perfect self-portrait or video is just a tap away with an ultra-wide angle front-facing camera which supports 1080p video capture. Multi-axis optical image stabilization for the rear camera also helps ensure video footage smoother whether stationary or on the move. HTC UltraPixel camera adds many other features and effects such as enhanced 360′ panorama, time sequencing and object removal.

HTC BoomSound

The new HTC One offers the best audio experience of any mobile phone available today. HTC BoomSound introduces for the first time on a phone, front-facing stereo speakers with a dedicated amplifier and an amazing full HD display that immerses people in music, videos, games and the YouTube™ clips they love. Beats Audio™  integration is enabled across the entire experience for rich, authentic sound whether you’re listening to your favorite music, watching a YouTube video or playing a game.

HDR recording uses advanced dual microphones and audio processing to capture clean, rich sound that is worthy of high-definition video footage.  Phone calls sound great on HTC One thanks to the addition of HTC Sense Voice™, which boosts the call volume and quality in noisy environments so that conversations come through loud and clear.

HTC Sense TV™

HTC Sense TV transforms the new HTC One into an interactive program guide and remote control for most TVs, set-top boxes and receivers. Tapping the power of the cloud, Sense TV makes it simple and intuitive to see what’s on and find that favorite show.

Metal Unibody Design

Wrapped in a zero-gap aluminum unibody and sporting a brilliant 4.7”, Full HD (1080p) screen, the new HTC One features the latest Android Jelly Bean operating system and LTE network technology to offer blazingly-fast browsing in a package that combines premium design with breakthrough build quality.

Available in stunning silver and beautiful black, the sleek and crafted aluminum unibody sits comfortably in the hand and showcases HTC’s unique antenna technology, which helps people achieve a crystal clear signal. The display also resists scratches and reduces glare, whilst offering incredible 468ppi resolution and rich, natural colors.

The "Google Phone" sounded too awesome to pass up, so I bought a G1. The rest is history. And yes, I know my name isn't Wilson.

  1. Soooo.. What’s the battery?

    1. Yeah,that, & is it removable?

    2. 2,300mah

      1. You late buddy

    3. 2300mah lithium polymer

  2. Beautiful phone. Good job HTC!

  3. I lol’d at the lack of applause at the end of the video.

  4. “think of the iOS search screen…”
No. I don’t want to think of something I’ve never seen and have no interest in.

Is this “Phandroid?” Or is this “Politically Correct Droid?” We are here because we have a passion for Android. If we wanted to hear about iOS features, we’d go to CNET or the Verge.

Keep it 100, Phandroid. 100% Android. There is enough diversity in the Android ecosystem that you can cover any reference you can think of.

    1. Quit bitching, jesus christ.

    2. I was just making a comparison in case anyone needed a visualization before we could get our hands-on up.

    3. All he was doing was making a comparison… He wasn’t trying to brag on apple.

    4. i took it as a reference point. a comparison. Its not like theyre telling you to “think of gay sex” but you probably do anyways. lol

  5. You guys just added that battery part lol. Smooth.

    1. Yea, sorry. Information overload. Lots of updating.

      1. Any idea if the battery removable this time around?

  6. So, the lack of a multitasking/menu button was the stupidest thing they could have done. The huge HTC Logo in-between the buttons is ugly as hell. I won’t be buying this.

    1. I use my multitasking/menu button probably more than home or back buttons… so getting rid of the most used button? Well.. erm.. what can I say?

      1. The multitasking/menu functionality can still be activated via long click.

        1. No, it’s a double tap. Google now is a press and hold.

          1. Yeah sorry my bad

    2. The button may not be there, but the function still is (double tap on the home button).

It’s also quicker and easier to use than even on stock Android, since it shows you ALL the apps, no scrolling necessary.

      1. With such a small battery I guarantee you it has the same sort of aggressive task killing that the One X shipped with. Yes, while the multitasking screen is nicer, the way of accessing it is extremely clumsy and unintuitive.

    3. I’m confused a little. I’m fine with double-tapping on home to access the multitasking list. But how do I open in-app menus without a menu button? Surely, I’m missing something, right?

      1. Sorry- I haven’t been keeping up lately and, after researching a little, I now see we’re talking about different things. I didn’t realize the menu button was deprecated in Android in general and that this phone would be using a soft menu button. It seems like older apps that still depend on a menu button are going to be pretty clunky for the foreseeable future.

  7. If you’re going to screw with the layout and function of the Android buttons at the bottom of the screen, wouldn’t it have been cool if the “htc” logo were a button that’s only function was to open up Sense? Think about it, the phone is pure vanilla whatever version of Android they’re launching with…. It’s completely update”able” independent of HTC, Giving the user a level of choice they can’t get with Samsung, BONUS, the “htc” logo button is already branded, so it wouldn’t confuse customers and you’ll hit it with intent. The selling point could easily be those cool functions that exist on the camera, “Zoes”, and you could update Sense whenever you free well please based on a stable build of Android. You now have a phone with great build quality, that people are more inclined to hold onto longer based on a model that the software is ever evolving instead of being exhausted.

  8. So they added stereo speakers to the front but eliminated the kick-stand?

  9. love when apple fanboy editors attend events like this. no applause after someone announces something. they’d rather save the applause for a weak iterative release of the next iphone…

  10. Ugh, small battery. Motorola is the only phone company that has gotten the battery right so a phone lasts! Also, what’s up with no recent apps button? I will not be ditching my Galaxy Nexus for this, that’s for sure…

    1. It’s no executed by double tapping the home button. Works great.

    2. Galaxy Note 2 has almost the same battery (3,000 mAh)

  11. YAAAAAY no crappy Ubooty tablet!!!

  12. I’ve been an HTC guy ever since the Hero with Sprint, and I’m pretty sad to say that this is the first time I’ve not been excited for the new HTC phone coming to Sprint. There’s a lack of an SD card slot, no kickstand, and a ridiculous button layout.

  13. I hate white phones. Plus HTC doesn’t use SD CARDS so I’ll pass and buying the XPERIA Z still on top of my list

    1. its a 32gb internal memory. Thats 10 times the amount any normal person actually needs.

  14. man i bet he thought he was SOOOOOO bad ass walking on that stage with that phone and that intro music… what a stud……… not lol

    phone looked sexy though

  15. On the HTC website it’s showing the HTC One in 3 colors – Silver, Black and RED!!

  16. Front facing stereo speaker is heads above the rest. So tired of rear facing speakers, especially on tablets. Awesome camera and great speaker is showing how HTC is great at building hardware. My only question is how the aluminum body doesn’t interfere with phone signal and gps.

    1. Seriously. I watch a lot of YouTube video, DailyMotion etc on my phone, cupping the back of it is just plain silly. HTC was thinking ahead.

  17. So what ever happened to that 8x esque looking phone that kept getting leaked and called the M7?

    1. I wondered the same thing. Apparently it wasn’t real, or perhaps a super duper early prototype?

      1. but there was like finalized looking hardware leaked out and people did hands on with it. Usually i dont think they put things like the beats logo on until something is done, based on other leaks atleast. Im thinking maybe its a verizon version of the phone to be announced later on? idk

      2. Ah, im forgetting about MWC!

  18. any news on the price or when the uk will get it?

  19. Any word on if it’s coming out on Verizon and if so,when? Considering this over an iphone 5 and Galaxy S3. Though if the S4 is coming out soon(March-April) i’ll consider waiting for that.

    1. Not likely on Verizon due to the DNA.

  20. Ermahgerd ner berrzerl. *looks closer * no wait there it is.

  21. Is it S-OFF ? Stop being a douchebag, HTC. Samsung is doing fine without locking up its phones

  22. it better have a expandable memory or its a epic fail

    1. Epic Win for me I’m afraid :) One less thing to go wrong that I don’t need ;)

    2. Read from a different source that a 64gb version will be available.

  23. 2300mah, non-removable?…Oh, HTC, you really aren’t paying attention. While other manufacturers are making non-removable skinny batteries in their phones, that last long…you’re stuck thinking that people much prefer “thin,” while your competitors are making phones just as thin with batteries that have 1/3 more capacity. If you want to get back on top, this is not the way to do it.

  24. Anyone else think this looks like an iPhone 5? I would imagine if the iPhone 5 came in a larger screen size it would look like this phone. Did HTC copy the iPhone 5 design?

    1. No, no one thinks that. You’re just a moron.

      1. Wow, I’m a “moron” because I think it looks like an iPhone 5?

With that one simple response you just showed a lot about your character, your upbringing and your lack of class. I bet your mother would be proud.

Was calling me a “moron” really necessary? You’re definitely a sad individual.

        1. No you are a moron for suggesting that HTC as you said copied the iPhone 5. With your one simple response you showed a lot about your character, your upbringing, and your lack of class, I bet your mother would be proud.

It takes a sad individual to go on any Android website and compare a state of the art masterpiece to the wretched cursed, behind the times iPhone.

Thats why I called you a moron.

          Truth hurts, i know.

          1. “art masterpiece”
With your one simple response you showed a lot about your character, your upbringing, and your lack of class, I bet your mother would be proud.

      2. i was thinking the same thing..he is a moron

        1. stop calling him a moron..people are sensitive.

  25. Hey it looks just like a BB Z10, weird.

  26. Not impressed

  27. lol typical HTC. Put all this power into a phone and skimp on the battery. 2300mAh? Yeah…Again, HTC is giving Android a bad name in battery life by undercutting the battery far too much.

I had the HTC Thunderbolt and I will never again have an HTC phone until they start putting decent batteries in them. I’ll stick with Samsung and Motorolla for their battery longevity.

Also, let’s hope HTC can figure out how to make buttons that last longer than 9 months. Everybody I knew with the Thunderbolt and DINC2 had their power buttons stop working before a full year of use.

    HTC = Failephant.

    1. you must not know a lot of people then. With your whiny comments im not surprised. Ive only had HTC phones, never had a power button stop working. Stop lying, please. The batteries are fine on HTC phones, no better on any other phone too. The only great batteries are on specific phones there is no manufacturer that does it better than any other. Its a great phone, will sell millions, stop hating.

  28. The specs are nice and I like the front facing speakers, but that phone is ugly as hell.

  29. Nice to see HTC continually pass on giving Verizon their flagship. I mean, why would you want to give the biggest carrier your best device? Oh well, bring on the GS4 or GooMoto X.

  30. If it wasn’t for the 2300mah battery, this is a phone I could get psyched for. Everything else looks awesome. 32gb isn’t a ton of space, but enough to do nearly everything I want. The camera looks awesome, and I’d be coming from the shiatty 3vo camera. This *could* be my next phone.

    1. 32gb IS a TON of SPACE. If its not enough , theres something wrong, seriously.

      1. Please. If that were the case, why would they bother to make phones with more storage? I actually read from a different source that there will be a 64gb version available, which is what I will opt for if I decide on this phone. My Evo3D has 4gb internal storage and a 32gb SD card for a total of 36gb. I’m constantly pushing photos and videos to Dropbox to free up space, and my camera is only 5mp, let alone 13mp.
Many games these days are >1gb. Even just 2 or 3 of these eats up a good chunk of storage.
Also, sometimes I travel for work. Sometimes I’ll download cartoons or other TV shows to my phone. That 36gb isn’t looking like that much now is it?
Bottom line is, 32GB is plenty for most people. But saying “there’s something wrong, seriously” to people that want more makes me think there’s something seriously wrong with you.

        1. You sir are in a minority, IF you want to download cartoons on your way to SCHOOL – crack on and get an iphone like the rest of your fellow students HA ha ha ha ha

          1. Ya, that’s smart, Pay for things from iTunes or download them for free and copy the file to my phone. Hmmm, which one will i do? One of the many reasons to own an Android phone, which I shouldn’t have to justify because ya know, I’m posting this on an Android website.
And yes, I already mentioned that I was in the minority. Did you not read the entire last paragraph of my previous post?

  31. Wow some of you people are ridiculous on here. You cry and complain about every little thing possible. I read a bunch of comments before this phone was out saying it better have this, it better have that. And now its here, with AMAZING specs. The hardware looks nothing like an iPhone 5 nor BB. Its sleek and beautiful IMO. But yet people still cry about it. It amazes me how nit picky people can be. Everyone cried about Senses’ UI about how laggy it is, how it sucks, blah blah blah and here HTC goes and totally revamps the UI into something new, original, fast and smooth as heck. And people STILL COMPLAIN AND CRY!!! unbelievable. It looks great all around and I think HTC did a GREAT job on this device. Cant wait to play with one when it becomes available.

  32. Ummm, maybe I missed it, but is this phone gonna have 4G LTE???

  33. If I can just have those front speakers on a Note 3, then I would have the perfect phone!

  34. Nice looking phone – shame about the Sense and lack of future updates.
