HTC has just announced its HTC One smartphone, a 4.7 inch 1080p HD Super LCD 3 device that is outfitted with Qualcomm’s very powerful 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a 13 megapixel camera with 1080p HD video recording, a 2 megapixel front camera, a 2,300mAh battery, NFC, front-facing stereo speakers that HTC is calling BoomSound, Android 4.1.2 (4.2.2 is already in the works) with HTC Sense 5 and more.
On the hardware front, HTC took a lot of time and care to design the One with a process it’s calling “zero gap.” It’s an all-metal construction that cuts down on every corner possible, allowing HTC to fit a lot of great stuff into a very slim, sleek and light package.
With HTC Sense 5, the company is introducing BlinkFeed, an RSS-style look into your social life and interests. You simply swipe all the way to the left of your home-screen and BlinkFeed occupies its own pane. It’s not a widget, per-se: think of the iOS search screen or Samsung’s Page Buddies. It’s really cool stuff, and it’s there if you need it (but not in the way if you don’t). Everything — from your latest photos, to your mom’s Facebook status, and even your favorite stories from Phandroid — will occupy BlinkFeed as the HTC One learns what is important to you and will deliver that content in a very nice way. More than 1,400 news sources will be included, and over 10,000 articles per day will be at your fingertips.
HTC’s also debuting some new innovations in the camera department, and its new camera suite is called Zoe. Using the footage and images taken with the 13MP “UltraPixel” camera sensor, Zoe can take your photos and video and automatically combine them into a dynamic presentation with professional-looking cuts, transitions and effects, and set to very nice background audio. You can specify certain themes for Zoe to use to give your creation a certain mood.
Alongside all of that, HTC has improved the camera experience with better panoramic photos, object removal, multi-axis optical image stabilization, and more.
Finally, enter HTC Sense TV — a new feature that will allow you to use your phone as an interactive TV guide and remote control. Because an infrared transmitter is built into the power button, you can control most modern televisions as you would any remote, and the software will utilize information from the cloud to make it easy to see what’s on and ready for your viewing pleasure.

So, the lack of a multitasking/menu button was the stupidest thing they could have done. The huge HTC Logo in-between the buttons is ugly as hell. I won’t be buying this.
I use my multitasking/menu button probably more than home or back buttons… so getting rid of the most used button? Well.. erm.. what can I say?
The multitasking/menu functionality can still be activated via long click.

The button may not be there, but the function still is (double tap on the home button).
It’s also quicker and easier to use than even on stock Android, since it shows you ALL the apps, no scrolling necessary.
With such a small battery I guarantee you it has the same sort of aggressive task killing that the One X shipped with. Yes, while the multitasking screen is nicer, the way of accessing it is extremely clumsy and unintuitive.
I’m confused a little. I’m fine with double-tapping on home to access the multitasking list. But how do I open in-app menus without a menu button? Surely, I’m missing something, right?
Sorry- I haven’t been keeping up lately and, after researching a little, I now see we’re talking about different things. I didn’t realize the menu button was deprecated in Android in general and that this phone would be using a soft menu button. It seems like older apps that still depend on a menu button are going to be pretty clunky for the foreseeable future.
If you’re going to screw with the layout and function of the Android buttons at the bottom of the screen, wouldn’t it have been cool if the “htc” logo were a button that’s only function was to open up Sense? Think about it, the phone is pure vanilla whatever version of Android they’re launching with…. It’s completely update”able” independent of HTC, Giving the user a level of choice they can’t get with Samsung, BONUS, the “htc” logo button is already branded, so it wouldn’t confuse customers and you’ll hit it with intent. The selling point could easily be those cool functions that exist on the camera, “Zoes”, and you could update Sense whenever you free well please based on a stable build of Android. You now have a phone with great build quality, that people are more inclined to hold onto longer based on a model that the software is ever evolving instead of being exhausted.
So they added stereo speakers to the front but eliminated the kick-stand?

Ugh, small battery. Motorola is the only phone company that has gotten the battery right so a phone lasts! Also, what’s up with no recent apps button? I will not be ditching my Galaxy Nexus for this, that’s for sure…

I’ve been an HTC guy ever since the Hero with Sprint, and I’m pretty sad to say that this is the first time I’ve not been excited for the new HTC phone coming to Sprint. There’s a lack of an SD card slot, no kickstand, and a ridiculous button layout.
I hate white phones. Plus HTC doesn’t use SD CARDS so I’ll pass and buying the XPERIA Z still on top of my list

Front facing stereo speaker is heads above the rest. So tired of rear facing speakers, especially on tablets. Awesome camera and great speaker is showing how HTC is great at building hardware. My only question is how the aluminum body doesn’t interfere with phone signal and gps.

2300mah, non-removable?…Oh, HTC, you really aren’t paying attention. While other manufacturers are making non-removable skinny batteries in their phones, that last long…you’re stuck thinking that people much prefer “thin,” while your competitors are making phones just as thin with batteries that have 1/3 more capacity. If you want to get back on top, this is not the way to do it.

I had the HTC Thunderbolt and I will never again have an HTC phone until they start putting decent batteries in them. I’ll stick with Samsung and Motorolla for their battery longevity.
Also, let’s hope HTC can figure out how to make buttons that last longer than 9 months. Everybody I knew with the Thunderbolt and DINC2 had their power buttons stop working before a full year of use.

If it wasn’t for the 2300mah battery, this is a phone I could get psyched for. Everything else looks awesome. 32gb isn’t a ton of space, but enough to do nearly everything I want. The camera looks awesome, and I’d be coming from the shiatty 3vo camera. This *could* be my next phone.

Please. If that were the case, why would they bother to make phones with more storage? I actually read from a different source that there will be a 64gb version available, which is what I will opt for if I decide on this phone. My Evo3D has 4gb internal storage and a 32gb SD card for a total of 36gb. I’m constantly pushing photos and videos to Dropbox to free up space, and my camera is only 5mp, let alone 13mp.
Many games these days are >1gb. Even just 2 or 3 of these eats up a good chunk of storage.
Also, sometimes I travel for work. Sometimes I’ll download cartoons or other TV shows to my phone. That 36gb isn’t looking like that much now is it?
Bottom line is, 32GB is plenty for most people. But saying “there’s something wrong, seriously” to people that want more makes me think there’s something seriously wrong with you.

Wow some of you people are ridiculous on here. You cry and complain about every little thing possible. I read a bunch of comments before this phone was out saying it better have this, it better have that. And now its here, with AMAZING specs. The hardware looks nothing like an iPhone 5 nor BB. Its sleek and beautiful IMO. But yet people still cry about it. It amazes me how nit picky people can be. Everyone cried about Senses’ UI about how laggy it is, how it sucks, blah blah blah and here HTC goes and totally revamps the UI into something new, original, fast and smooth as heck. And people STILL COMPLAIN AND CRY!!! unbelievable. It looks great all around and I think HTC did a GREAT job on this device. Cant wait to play with one when it becomes available.
