It was back in October we told you guys about the GameKlip, an accessory for Android devices that managed to secure a PlayStation 3 Dualshock controller to the handset of your choice. While that was great idea (one that no doubt spawned similar solutions from bigger accessory makers like the MOGA), the biggest pitfall of the GameKlip was never the accessory, but the lack of PS3 controller support in most Android devices.
Well, it looks like Sony could be leveraging their PlayStation unit to improve on the gaming experience found on their line of mobile devices thanks to full Sony PS3 controller support coming soon to all their Xperia handsets. As demonstrated on a video by Twitter user @djnermal, the functionality will soon find itself baked into Sony Xperia devices but because there isn’t any actual application, we’re not too optimistic that this will make its way to other PlayStation Mobile certified devices (like those from HTC). We’ll still keep our fingers crossed.
To get everything up and running, the process is relatively simple. Users will only have to connect their PS3 controllers to their handset using a USB on-the-go cable (possibly to be bundled with future handsets?), and just like on their PS3 console, everything will pair up instantly. This process will only need to be performed once, allowing Xperia users to take their mobile gaming to the next level on either PlayStation Mobile titles, or any game from the Google Play Store that offers Bluetooth controller compatibility. Honestly, I think it’s high time every game should offer that by now.
Pretty awesome and yet another way Sony Xperia devices are standing out in a crowded Android smartphone market. Now, who do I have to talk to about getting a worthy Sony Xperia Play sequel?

Imagine doing this with the Xperia Tablet S
Did you mean the Z?
Whatever the newest xperia tablet is from sony
The tablet Z
Would be nice on Tablet S too, whichever.
You see, SixAxis requires root. If Sony does this, the developers can extract and decompile EVERYTHING to see how Sony is doing it. Then you could potentially have SixAxis for EVERY device. But the developer wouldn’t be able to charge for it.
False. Sony will write proprietary software.
So the developers won’t be able to hack into this? *sadness*
You just ruined it for others. I still root. So I still have the app… If it works for the device I would get… =.S
I should have been more specific. False to the fact that root will be required after this Sony app is installed. The XDA community will tear that software open, and make it available to all devices :D
Ah!! That’s what I was trying to say. Root won’t be required with the XDA version. Apparently I can’t talk. =./
Good bye Galaxy S3! Idc about pixels, cores, and motion controls, i am a Gamer!
DS3 already works on my GS3, but wired only. Not enough of my games actually support an external controller though. NFS Most Wanted doesn’t (shock!).
Anyone know the name of the game at 1:55?, looks fun.
I hope someone rips the official ds3 official android drivers and make them available for other devices.
Sony are the future. Surprisingly
Not quite yet, but we will see. I sure hope they can defeat samsung though.
Glad they finally realized this was a good idea. I have been using my phonejoy for a couple years now though.
Now I think this will give some winning edge for Sony for sure. Good move and finally!
