It’s been awhile since Sony unveiled the Sony Xperia Z back at CES 2013 in January. While we’re still waiting for the Sony Xperia Z to land here in the states, there’s already talk of a new Sony handset set to release this summer, codenamed the Sony Honami. Sources close to the matter are saying the device will feature a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, and powerful 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. While we let that set in for just a little bit, the standard 2GB of RAM also makes the cut, along with a 2,700mAh+ battery.
According to VR-Zone, Honami’s most notable spec will be its Sony 1/1.6″ sized sensor and premium grade Sony Cybershot G lens. This would, in theory, place the device right up there with the Nokia Pureview 808, a smartphone with the best image quality to date (also one of the thickest). And it’s not just hardware either. The Honami is said to use the same imaging software as Sony’s Cybershot cameras to process images. Because of the point-n-shoot sized specs (and phablet sized battery), the whole phone is expected to be a little thicker than most of this year’s flagships, measuring in at about 10mm in thickness.
We’re going to have to take the wait and see approach, not getting our hopes up until we have something a little more concrete (like a leaked image). Chinese site ePrice is pegging August or September for the international release and with IFA 2013 also coming up in September, it’s possible we’ll learn more around then.
10 mm thinckness? Honestly, that’s not thick at all.
And considering the amazing camera, that’s amazing.
Finally, an android with a large sensor. And for a first, decent camera software from Sony.
Can’t wait. Sony’s finally back.
I’ve been saying they’re back with the Xperia Z but it never came out. I’m just going to go with “they’re coming.”
According to fcc posts Xperia z looks to be hitting T-Mobile sometime. Probably a month or 2 from now would be my guess
When I read the rumored that xperia ZL (Odin) will goes through tmobile, I was xcited. But now the latest rumor is, they will getting the Z (yuga-ga), they are mesmerized with it water/dust resistant and that slippery glass of it :-(.I know the battery of them are
both suckkkkkk…. but I wanttttttttttt…… the compact size of ZL. Disappointed. …. It’s Ok! !!!! Wait another time!!! :'(
ZL’s performance is not great though.
Every phone have pros and cons, xperia zl with 5″ full hd display is the smallest of them all, that’s my point fellas!
whoa. i would get this. it would never come to verizon, though, right?
Hey, never say never. I mean if…. no, you’re right.
Lol
please put micro hdmi on it! mhl is terrible :-( ..
Keep up the good work Sony… and soon you’ll overtake HTC to be #2
EDIT: #3 (I forgot about dear Moto Razr’s… :))
ya, don’t see anyone touching HTC if they continue in the direction on the One!
That’s more mega pixels than my Canon dslr that semi disappoints me in regards to my canon.
Lol! But your Canon has a bigger image sensor. That’s what makes ALL the difference :)
I would love to see this hit Verizon Wireless… But I doubt that will happen
snapdragon 800? like i think my desktop doesnt even have that type of processing power!
Just putting high specs in a phone won’t really win you any points. Too early to judge, but I seriously doubt this will be anything special especially coming from Sony. They are gaining momentum but they aren’t ready to seriously challenge any of the top dogs right now.
So more of a camera (smart) phone? Whatever happened to the Panasonic Lumix phones?
