Samsung thought their “big announcement” was all about their new Operating System – Bada – which they hope will turn today’s “feature” phones into “smartphones” by default. But we’re FAR more interested in a phone that they didn’t even mention – good things its specs slipped through in a Press Release and pictures followed soon after:
Not bad looking, right? Well it’s what is on the INSIDE that truly counts and the i8520 doesn’t disappoint. For starters, this thing has a PROJECTOR. Then pile on a 3.7-inch SUPER AMOLED Screen, 8MP camera with flash and auto-focus, a simpler front facing camera, and a WHOLE bunch more.
Wondering what a Super AMOLED screen is all about? Check out this picture of the Nexus One next to the Samsung Wave – another phone with a Super AMOLED display:
Here is a video of the Samsung Wave (NOT an Android Phone) showing off its Super AMOLED next to the Nexus One (not in English):
This is going to be a real contender in the Android world for save your money for 3rd Quarter when this thing is supposed to launch. Where exactly? You don’t see Android plastered all over the device or even mentioned, really… but make no mistake – that little “i” before the 8520 means it packs Android. Not to mention the screenshot of the homescreen shows a bunch of generic “Market App” stuff. Sounds like Android Market to me.
I notice that two of the “market apps” are using the dialer icon and another has the android bot on it.
Theres really no question about its OS of choice
the pics of the projector is not part of this phone. for some odd reason the guy did not show the projector at all in the video. also, the mini usb port in the video is on the top, whilst in the pic with the projector it is on the side.
im not saying its not gonna have a projector, i would just refrain from saying it does at the moment.
@pieter the video isnt of this phone, its of another Super AMOLED samsung phone… read before u speak dork
the projecter in the phone makes it way better than the lg projector phone
yea thats my bad. i guess i was just overeager to watch the vid and stopped reading. and im sure he mentions “samsung wave” in the vid, but since i watched it w/o sound i was not able to pick that up.
The Wave is a sexy beast
The Halo is ugliest thing I have seen yet but the projector… FM Radio etc make up for that but why a projector?
Super AMOLED is beautiful
Hmm, in the picture of the screens side by side, does the N1 have its brightness feature turned on? If not, I wonder what the difference would look like.
The “full specs” list fails to mention processor frequency. With some of those specs I assume it’s not using Samsung’s 800Mhz MP?
The picture of the nexus and the samsung phone side by side isn’t a good comparison by any means. The brightness settings on the nexus one is obviously set to low.
I’m guessing this phone will even kill the new iphone….to be
Like the phone, hate the custom UI their using over good old android.
I hate the custom UI, too. STOP trying to rip off iPhone’s interface! It looks like they used some part of it that looks like iPhone’s interface for their press photos. If people want an iPhone interface, they’re going to buy an iPhone, not some perceived knockoff. Android 2.1 is now strong enough to stand on its own two feet without these stupid UI “enhancements”.
Also, the screen comparison is not even close to a fair fight with the display on its lowest brightness setting. My Nexus One gets blindingly bright, and with a massive contrast ratio. What’s funny is that the Nexus One uses a Samsung OLED panel, so it’s sort of weird that they’d be smearing their own customer. Payback for launching the Nexus One and making other Android phones look weaker, maybe?
The phone will also support an eight megapixel camera, with flash; DivX/Xvid playback; Bluetooth 2.1; 802.11b/g/n WiFi; GPS; and 16GB storage.
A Specialised Projector UI is also to be found on the device which indicates when using the projector the user interface changes to be more “projector friendly”:

this samsung i8520 phone patented the menu page of the iphone 3g , everybody copies iphone 3g. now what is difference is operating system . the samsung uses android – but its only 800 megahertz speed – it very slow while HTC nexxus operating system is GHZ snap dragon – super fast speed browsing. well I still go for HTC because HTC will boom its phone in the future than samsung. Nokia phone will fall down because there patent sucks and operating system sucks. ATT will cut back while Verizons will accelrate. Tmobile will slash backward because of coverage wasnt good at all when it comes to internet.
When will this phone come to the U.S.?
