Last week, T-Mobile began teasing an underwater smartphone with a video of someone taking video while submerged, and asked the world “what if your smartphone could do this.” With murmurings suggesting Sony’s Xperia Z would be landing on T-Mobile shelves for a while we immediately figured it was for that, and so it was. A sign-up page for the Xperia Z on T-Mobile has gone live.
The page doesn’t give us much more than a quick overview of some of its features, though we already have a full helping of official specs considering this phone has been making its rounds in other parts of the world for a bit of time now. The Xperia Z features a 5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm’s quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13.1 megapixel HD camera, a 2.2 megapixel front camera, Android 4.1.2 and more.
Its IP57 certification means it can be submerged in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes, which isn’t a bad deal if you’re the type who finds yourself in the situation where you’ll need to get your phone a bit wet from time to time. Go ahead and sign up to be notified if you’ve been looking forward to getting your hands on this phone. You can take care of that at T-Mobile’s website today.
To me they waited too long to bring it out. Still a sexy phone just don’t dig Sony UI
They definitely got this phone really late, and the fact that they made an announcement without a release date make no sense to me…..Still gettin getting it though, lol.
It’s a rule they have to wait for 1st shipments of the next model the Xperia ZL, LOL.
actually the Sony UI is the best of all the manufacturers and closest to stock Android.
But it still lags here and there. The lag is much worse than Samsung’s Touchwiz.
It just took a while to get stateside. Been out since Feb in Japan
Upgrade to Snapdragon 600 and it will sell nicely!
If the Google Edition is also a T-Mobile exclusive then screw that. Not T-Mobile.
what is this gsm exclusivity you speak of?
Hmm If I decide to get this, then I can finally bring my cell phone in the water when I go to the beach and not have to leave it in my pants by the umbrella and watch it like a hawk…would be nice.
Only 30 minutes, don’t forget
Dry it up and another 30 minutes..
At 31 minutes, she explodes… (There’s a timer, LOL.)
I don’t imagine salt water would be kind to electronics.
please tell me more.
Yeah seriously please elaborate
I agree with the comment of putting the 600 in it or better yet the 800 when it arrives and it would make it a competitive phone. I think they need to get their screen tech squared away as well. I had an xperia t and loved it except for the screen and it’s horrible viewing angles.
I’ll be buying it. I will be running cyanogen or pacman ROM though.
FK YES
You lost me at Huawei
We better wait for honami/togari to come out in the US carriers
Megapixel count dont mean squat! Its all about the sensors and lenses which if Im not mistaken the camera has actually got pretty damn good reviews.
I’m waiting for the Xperia ZU. But I must say, the phone looks very nice. The new Z design is great. Who said hard edges can’t be beautiful?
