The new DROID devices have just been announced and one of the most popular ones will definitely be the Motorola DROID Maxx. Like it’s Maxx predecessors, this bad boy will be the king of battery life in a world where people struggle to get even a full “work day” of juice.
The DROID Maxx is said to offer 48 hours of battery life with “average” usage. This can be affected by many factors, but we are sure it can get you through a full day even with heavy use.

- 1.7 GHz Dual Core with Quad–Core Graphics

- 32 GB of internal storage
- 10 MP / 2 MP cameras

To top it off, the device is 9% thinner than its previous iteration. It also features the same unibody, kevlar build with gorilla glass protecting the screen. These characteristics make the Maxx the best alternative of the three devices announced today (others being the DROID Ultra and DROID Mini), but there is much more to enjoy.
All three devices have a 24% faster CPU and 100% faster GPU compared to the previous generation of DROID phones, in addition to doubled RAM memory. Software and features will be built equally across all new DROID smartphones, though.

As expected, the DROID Maxx is the most expensive of the 3 devices at $299 with a 2-year Verizon contract. A little high, but it’s the standard for high-end smartphones on Verizon nowadays. If you are thinking of getting this bad boy, though, it will be ready for purchase on August 20th.

so yeah I am sure they will be up to par with current specs from early this year, that may be bad news since phones are getting more powerful with each quater, Motorola should release and annouce much ealryer in the year imo. because spec wise they tend to look stale

Besides battery life, it doesn’t hold any water compared to the S4. It’ll be a while before any company can beat the S4 specs. Besides that, at least Moto beefed up the processor.
They will be faster than the S4 just due to not having TW on them. I think TW is a nice overlay, but it bogs down the S3 and S4. It may not seem like it, but put an AOSP Rom on either one and you can notice the speed difference. That said, with encrypted bootloaders (as I’m sure these will have), I’m not sure I’d go with these phones. I’ll have to do a hands on first.
Just as the post you replied to was just speculation, so is your first sentence. As you rightly noted, a hands on will be needed to determine how these new phones perform.
You’re one of the very few that thinks Touchwiz is any kind of nice. It’s hot garbage. It’s fucked up like a football bat.
Very few? How many S3 and S4 phones has Samsung sold? I think you should say very few on the phone nerd boards. TW adds quite a few features over stock Android, gimmicky as they may be. They have obviously hit a sweet spot with consumers, so I think it is people with your opinion who are in the minority TBH. TW is also more than the visual appearance. The camera software, wipe to screen shot, S-voice (if you use stuff like that), etc are nice additions for people that use them.
This is obviously speculation at this point, which is fine, but you certainly cannot present it as if it’s a well known fact. On paper, sure, but as we all know, paper doesn’t even come close to telling the whole (or even correct) story a lot of the time.

These specs aren’t bad, but why does the Ultra get the new, shiny X8 Mobile Computing System, and this one only gets a dual-core CPU? Bit of a disappointment imo…
You aren’t reading it right. They all have the X8. The dual core is referring to the 2-cores for apps. Then you have 4 (quad) cores for graphics, 1 for language, and 1 for contextual computing……for a total of 8
Thank goodness! I’m up for upgrade soon and was looking forward to this phone, but that was going to be a huge turnoff!
One can only hope that this is the case. I doubt it. I would lean more toward a Dev Edition, but hopefully that isn’t the case.
The next question is the security of the bootloader then! Hopefully since Motorola is “a Google Company” now, they will set up something liek HTCDev’s site where you can unlock!

This is going to be a hard decision then between this, Moto X Phone, or the S4.

lol I am and I’m not using my damn upgrade they won’t take away my unlimited data.
If money is no object (and if you’re paying retail price you really ought to go for the gold imo, this phone will hold its value) the X doesn’t have much going for it. Opening the camera with a double flick is nice, but not really what I need out of a phone.
I’m not sure why, but these phones just don’t do it for me.
I hate how we as android users are spec whores. a phone that can last days on a internal battery with powerful internals still is looked down on compared to a s4 which last a day tops with its overkill specs? smh.
Last days on a internal battery? Speculation at this point – Verizon’s claims are always waaaaaaayyyyyyy off when it comes to battery life.
it’s strange, it’s almost like a Motorola just shoots to catch up. I know these things are done well in advance, but it seems like other companies are able to shoot for the stars a little bit more on their phones.I am appalled at the small amount of memory as well.I think 32 gigabytes and an SD card should be standard and ultra is sitting there with 16 gigabytes, but for whatever system considerations are taken into account, and there’s no SD card.I used to laugh when people first said the companies were trying to force us into using more cloud storage to squeeze us for more money, but now I’m not laughing at all.

The funny part is that people pretend “the cloud” even makes sense as a storage option – can you install a 2 gig game to the cloud? No. As for all other use cases, e.g. music, most non-grandmas learned how to use spotify and google music long ago.
You have a point… to a point. The S4 with it’s “overkill specs” is $100 cheaper on contract. So Motorola is chucking last years tech and charging this year’s pricing.
Honeslty though, the main problem I have with this device is that it’s just butt-f**king-ugly.
Looks a lot like my Dinc, which is pretty enough for me – not that I really care how pretty it is while it sits in my pocket tethering unlimited 4G for my Nexus 7 anyway.

if this had an SD card and front facing speakers I would have given it serious consideration. I can’t believe the ultra only has 16 gigabytes of memory either.
So, I’m guessing this will have the “always listening” of the Moto X. “OK GOOGLE NOW” or “OK MOTO MAGIC” etc…
Am I the only one that wonders what the heck “active display” means?
I am wondering if it is the new notification system that the Moto x will have. No led but a display that pulses the notifications on it, not sure.

Only part of the screen lights up to display a notification or something. Like a little bock or strip.
