By As we inch closer and closer to IFA Berlin, we expect the teasers to start ramping up in full force. Sony is the latest to get a juicy teaser out of the door, with the Japanese manufacturer proclaiming that “the best of Sony is about to get even better.”
The latest teaser video shows what we’ve been calling the Sony Xperia Z1, aka the Sony Honami, which is rumored to be a 5-inch 1080p smartphone that has a Snapdragon 800 processor, a 20 megapixel G-Series camera (which can apparently record 4K video), 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and more.
Speaking of that camera sensor, it’s something Sony has been spending a lot of time hyping over the past couple of days. The first tease came with this Google+ post, and Sony gave it a considerable amount of time in the 30-second spot you see above.
The sensor is said to be able to rival the quality put out by the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Nokia Lumia 1020, except without all the girth needed for a quality lens. It remains to be seen if the sensor can really live up to those lofty expectations, but we should find all of that out when Sony kicks their IFA Berlin press conference off on September 4th.

Will the screen be of quality? The Z had a horrible screen and color accuracy and it was 1080p. It’s not just about the numbers, but the quality of those specs and software. It needs to being a pleasurable experience to the user when handling the phone. I think that goes over OEMS heads. They need to start asking themselves is it worth making. Curious to see how this goes. Same day as the Note III
Not true anymore. After the firmware update the xperia z screen has gotten much better. The hardware was there, the software just needed tweaking.
The camera better be better than the Xperia Z’s by quite a large margin then. :-/
Is it just me are do anybody else thinks that Sony produces some sexy looking smartphones, may not have always been the best as far as specs but always had a nice look to em and this Z1 is gorgeous
They just need to freaking make some CDMA ones and get them carrier subsidized!

Sony does make some sexy phones in my opinion, they are top notch…just need this one to come to T-Mobile!!!

Why do they even bother with 4K recording. I want to see 1080p at 60hz before they venture any further with resolution. For me, 30hz or less is almost unbearable to watch because of motion choppiness.

true, but they could still work on giving us a 1080p 60hz option. I know I’ve seen stand alone cameras do 720p @30hz, 720p @60hz and 1080p @30hz, but of course most of them are lacking 1080p @60hz.
I agree. Phones have not even came close to taking full advantage of 1080P, instead they will not sell crappy 4K sensors.
