Need more evidence that Samsung is looking to bring out a more powerful version of their 2014 flagship Samsung Galaxy S5? The device — which we’ve been calling the Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime to this point — has popped in a Hong Kong pricing database. It’s listed as the Samsung SM-G906S, which is the same model number that leaked on Samsung’s own site a while back.
The listing doesn’t tell us much more than we already knew, but most its specs fall in line with the most recent rumors. Said rumors suggest the device will look and feel pretty much like a Samsung Galaxy S5, except you can expect 3GB of RAM and a 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display.
One discrepancy that contradicts with recent rumors is that the device will be coming with a Snapdragon 805 processor instead of the Octa-Core Exynos 5430. That may not mean much, though, as Samsung has never shied away from using different chipsets for different markets in the past.
New information gleamed from the listing suggests it’ll launch with Android 4.4.3 KitKat, an Android upgrade that doesn’t even officially exist yet.
Everything else is largely the same. It’s listed with a 16 megapixel rear camera, a 2 megapixel front camera, has a microSD card slot that can support up to 128GB of storage, will have LTE radios, and will come with the usual connectivity options of WiFi, NFC, Bluetooth, and microUSB.
It’s the phone we thought Samsung would be bringing to us in the first place, but alas it will take this second release to bring everyone the goods they were waiting for. The listing has the price set at $5,020 Hong Kong dollars, which comes out to about $650 over here in the states. That sounds about right for a device of this caliber, though we expect Samsung to go with a more traditional number whenever it is slated to launch over here.
Many of you expressed discontent with Samsung’s decision to bring this smartphone after the base Galaxy S5’s launch, and that’s understandable. It’s not fun to hear that the device you really wanted is going to come out after your return period is already up, but that’s what’s likely to happen, and there’s nothing we can do about it at this point.
We’re still waiting on details in terms of availability windows, though Qualcomm’s late 2014 availability of the rumored Snapdragon 805 processor should give us a hint that it won’t be here until late summer, or fall at the latest. Same here, but my wish is that the wireless charging back came standard. Everything else is great on this phone. Don’t need that 2k screen eating up my battery. [I have another upgrade coming in July, so I had little fear]
Being a proud Nexus 5 owner, if the Nexus 6 came out a few months later, I’d be pretty miffed. Even more so if it were the N5 ‘Prime’ and not the N6. A year later? Reasonable. But not a few months.

I’d be highly surprised if this ever reached NA. Samsung did the same thing with the S4 in the form of the Galaxy J which never came here.

Samsung just loves trolling. Man if they pull this crap with the Note line I’m done with them. Even now the more I think about it, the LG G3 might just be my next device. It’s a shame that only LG, Samsung and maybe a few other off market Asian brands are the only ones who believe in the small is good bezel philosophy. Everyone else just shits on this theory and otherwise mucks a rather perfectly good device (Yes I’m looking at you HTC One M8)
i think that’s a lte-a s5 version for korean market, samsung already did that too on galaxy s4 lte-a korean model last year
Except the LTE-A version of the Galaxy S4 didn’t have significantly better specs than the original, just updated LTE radios. This is fundamentally different.

I said significantly. S4 vs S4 LTE-A was mainly the processor, but here there’s a huge resolution bump, added RAM and a better processor.
Either way, the LTE-A version of the GS4 wasn’t meant to be a widespread product launch like the S5 Prime is rumored to be so the situations are still different.

You could return it or threaten to sue over deliberate misrepresentation: the Samsung CEO(or someone with similar authority) publicly stated this would not happen.
this is not some prime version some attention w…e invented in his brain. year by year samsung makes flagship version of their devices with bumped specs for samesung homeland KOREA. EVERY GOD DAMN YEAR so why would it be different this year.
premium version would mean international aviability and this bumped_spec_device like EVERY YEAR will be limited to Korea

5MP front facing camera or GTFO. I used that camera on my M8 and I’m like WTF!? I thought for 2 seconds I had used a rear camera.
I can’t downgrade that. The lighting was amazing, too. I’m amazed. 2MP is no longer a decent standard once you have 5MP. LoL!!
But I heard the Prime version of the M8 has 16GB internal. Outta line. That ain’t prime. 32GB or GTFO.

I’m a big Samsung supporter and currently own the S5 but if Samsung actually pulls this stunt and releases ” prime” version, a couple months after I spent damn near $700 on the “regular” S5, I’m done with Samsung for good….
