Kind of odd for us to be reporting on an iPhone update, no? Well, that’s because this particular update could have key implications for those who foresee themselves leaving the bitten fruit platform for the land of the robots.
Re/code reports that Apple has identified and acknowledged a server-side issue that affects iMessage users. Apple didn’t outright say what the issue was, though there’s reason to believe that they are referring to a bug where iMessage users who switch to a non-iOS phone and don’t deactivate their phone numbers fail to receive text messages on their new phone.
Whether Apple is too stubborn to admit that the issue they’re fixing is for users who may be leaving their platform is another fun story for another day, but we’re glad to see they’re going to do something about it instead of keeping less tech-savvy consumers who may not have known about the need to deactivate iMessage before switching platforms in the dark.
Are you currently faced with this issue? You’re quite the lucky person — we just so happen to have a handy little guide for those of you who want to switch back to Android and make sure this doesn’t affect you. It’s fairly simple, so be sure to give it a good read before you go and trade your iPhone in for the next hot Android phone.
They’re only doing it because a lawsuit was brought forth, otherwise they could give a sh!+ about defectors.
Is there an actual link set up yet for the lawsuit? I’d like to join it to get whatever coupon or small sum it ends up getting settled for.
I think the suit was brought on by an individual. A lady if I remember correctly.

I wonder if this will fix the issue where my google voice number doesn’t receive group texts from imessage.
I doubt it. I don’t think Google Voice does group text in general does it?
No idea, the only time i try to group text is when family/friends with iphones try to include me.
I think group text is considered MMS which Google Voice does not support.
Don’t quote me on that tho as MMS I think is available on Sprint but the issue then is that the GV messaging system doesn’t support group messaging.
Maybe with Hangouts integration we’ll finally get it.
About time…
That’s why I keep a separate line for my iPhone 5s for these exact reasons. Then again with Verizon, it’s not like I can just swap out sim cards anyway. I wonder if dual GSM users have experienced any issues when switching between devices.
Why are you so important to have multiple active lines anyway?
A separate line for his sancho phone.
Lol, 1 for work and 1 for play but more importantly, I’m just a tech geek like the rest of us who loves gadgets. That’s all. I’m even thinking of jumping on one of the MVNO’s so I can get a Windows phone too. Just waiting on the right one.
One for pimpin’ one for hustlin’
I wonder if this will fix the reverse issue–I have a friend that had to leave Android against her will and go to iPhone (work). I can no longer send her MMS. I’ve don’t all I know how to do, and nothing fixes it.
