While advertising the new World Cup card now available on Google Now, Google may have inadvertently confirmed the number of the next major Android release. The time, which shows 5:00, is typically used by Google to denote the Android version in all of their promos. It’s not uncommon for something like this to “leak” in Google’s screenshots, something we’ve seen in the past from their Google app listings in the Play Store.
Now that we could know the version number of the next Android version, still left open for discussion is the type of dessert they’ll use to name it after. Last year Google made a non-money-exchanging-hands kind of deal with Nestle to name Android 4.4 after their KitKat candy bar. It’s possible we could see Google do something similar with the L release (maybe Lemonhead?), or they could go the more generic route with something like lollipop. What do you guys think?

Anyone think it’ll be shown off a bit at I/O and later released in the Fall or Winter?
I don’t think they’ll show anything but new Google apps at I/O, Android Wear, and possibly “leak” the next Android version number like we’ve seen here.
But the name of the next Android dessert and features will more than likely be saved for their end of the year event.
But… that is so long time :|
No Silver? Or Nexus? Why do you think they wont mention any of that…
Note the semi-transparent navigation and status bars, that’s not how Google Now looks in 4.4.3!
That’s actually exactly how it looks on 4.4.3
Yup
That’s exactly how it looks in the Google now launcher. They are black if you aren’t using that launcer and open google now up however.
Ok thanks, I use Nova instead of GEL, that explains it.

A 5.0 revamp has me nothing but worried.
4.4 added the dreaded KitKat MicroSD card write restriction. Maybe we’ll see that pushed to the internal storage as well, with an iPhone-like complete sandboxing of the device, making you entirely dependent on the cloud to do anything involving data shared bewteen apps, and making Android stuff less useful as “general purpose” computing devices.
And there’s plenty of root breakage coming…no more executing binaries from /data, and no more modification of /system except via recovery mode (see: https://plus.google.com/+Chainfire/posts/TkGWeaiCYA9 ) If you’re on a locked bootloader with Verizon or AT&T, there may be significantly less independent OS development (ROMs). The security improvements in Android v.next are just fine, so long as you, not your carrier, is holding the key.
And some of the features that were added to KitKat (e.g. translucent status bars) are quite buggy if you’re trying to write software that works with them.
Android needs a 5.0, but it needs to be built with the end user’s and developer’s interest in mind. I hope the star feature of 5.0 isn’t that it can’t do things that 4.x could, with an explanation that it’s somehow in our best interest. As an independent developer, I strongly hope that they hold true to the values of an “Open Source Project”.
This is why I’m still on 4.2.2 on a Galaxy S2. Android’s anti-consumer direction has prevented me from spending any more money on Android hardware until a solution is found.
I hope they don’t pull the lame 18 month excuse and withhold this from the Nexus 4.
Heh, you know they will. But don’t worry, there will be Cyanogen, which will be even better, I’m still using the old Galaxy Nexus, and do not need a new phone…saved by CM.
Is there a final rom for the kit kat CM for the galaxy nexus?
Hell, I have a Nexus ONE with 4.4.2 on it…
I applaud thee, sir.
Snapdragon has been getting more support than omap…
I hope it’s here soon.
If this is indeed true and an update is forthcoming I’ll hold off on 4.4.3 so I don’t have to restore to stock/unroot with a full wipe. I’m just too damn lazy to go through that twice in a couple of months.

Liquor Hole?
LICK HER WHAT? You so nasty!
I can’t wait for them to fix all the issues with 4.4.3 and introduce all new ones!
Sorry, just slightly irritated with my phone right now.
I really hope they name it lollipop.

Now the wait for the galaxy note 3 update :(
Lemon Meringue Pie
I’m mad. I’m so mad. Google trolled us hard. =.P
I don’t even want to guess anymore. It can now literally be any dessert.
I say Lemon Poppyseed Cake
Yes everyone has heard of that ;-)
As long as it’s not Nestlé I don’t care. There’s a huge Nestlé boycott here in the UK. So much so it’s put people off Android products thanks to them collaborating with a company with such questionable ethics…
LemonGrab would be acceptable….
I hope its lemonade or lollipop.
Now we see how Samsung screws it down (or in some other direction) for AT&T andf Verizon. If this is another “no root, locked bootloader” wonder, I’ll stay on 4.3. And call this one “Loser Pie”.
