After the folks at TK Tech News put out a $25,000 bounty for anyone willing to leak the upcoming Moto X+1, it seems that bounty has now been claimed. Originally upset at a “company” trying to plant false leaks, it seems they now have the real deal on their hands. Part 1 of 5 leaks coming soon gives us a quick look at an alleged Moto X+1 prototype — complete with “Motorola Confidential Property” branding — as it’s boot animation is shown off to the world.
Update: Apparently, this is the same beta boot animation as found on the Motorola test devices dating all the way back to February here. What that means, is up for you to decide. Thanks, M477!
TK Tech News seems very confident that the phone he has in his possession is in fact that elusive Motorola Moto X+1. In blog posts, he touts the display as “amazing” and says the phone is noticeably thinner than the original Moto X. He also says it features a micro SD card slot, something not found in the original Moto X. According to his sources, we could be seeing a September release date for the Moto X+1, but we’ll have to wait and see how that all pans out.
In the meantime, check out the video below for a brief look at the phone’s boot animation and we’ll be on the look out for more leaks said to arrive this week. Cheers.

Anyone who wants this “””new””” boot animation, can download it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/themes-apps/bootanimation-moto-x-demo-t2660466
This is fake.
Seems Motorola could be using the same boot animation as their previous releases. I’m not so sure what TK has on his hands is fake. He seems rather confident that he’s got a Moto X+1 on his hands and this little tastes we’re seeing here is just the beginning. Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
This is originally was not a boot animation, this was just an mp4 video in the demo app, and then a guy on XDA repacked it to be used as a as a boot animation. The author used it because it is almost unknown.
A Google company? Didn’t the sale already officially go through? This can’t be real
Technically Google still owns them.
Early software, early prototype. This phone was well into development before Lenovo bought Motorola. If that boot animation doesn’t scream Google, I don’t know what does.
I should rephrase what I meant by my comment. I fully believe that this is a boot animation that has been used but there is no way that this will be the boot animation used for the phone. The animation has been around for a while now, someone could have downloaded the boot animation onto another phone, filmed a video in the dark and claimed it was the Moto X+1.
As with most leaks, it’s important to approach with caution. But knowing the source of the leak who is preparing to release further video/images of this alleged Moto X+1, I’d say this very well could be an old boot animation on an upcoming phone. Guess we wont have to wait long to find out!
Still owned by Google. These deals take a long time to close. Any number of factors could derail it (although highly unlikely). As of this moment, Motorola is still a Google-owned company…
No.
Did I miss something? Why does it say “a Google company” still? I thought Lenovo bought them
Has the deal gone through and ownership changed yet?? Until that happens, its still a ‘Google company’

Are they still encrypting their bootloaders, Chris? (Verizon)
I know they’re locked down tight. Everyone just offers “Dev” versions for Verizon customers looking to root/ROM. I’d expect the Moto X+1 will be no different.
Bunch of wet blankets at Verizon. What’s their practical reason for doing this? I’m not sure I’ve heard it before. Sprint and T-Mobile seem to be doing ok NOT locking down their stuff so…
Unlocked bootloaders bring down the quality of their network, duh.
Wet blankets…
“..and will feature a micro SD card slot”
Exactly 64gb plus SD card it will be mine
I hope that isn’t the boot animation because it took an awful long time to boot..
Hoping leaks 2-5 show a lot more of the phone and according to TK, they will.

Bring it already!!!!
I’m sorry… but some relatively no-name blog site stirs all this up, and now is posting 5 separate videos, with all this “source protecting” with their logo all over it? This reeks of a publicity stunt for clickbait…
Actually, this website has been credited with some good leaks so far. EVLeaks has been using them as a source lately (and we all know how most people around here view EVL).
But here’s the thing. No one can know with absolute certainty that THIS will be the Moto X successor, not even the person that leaked it. Sources were saying as late as May last year that 3 different SOC combinations were still being evaluated for the Moto X, and that was for an August launch. If a September launch is rumored, then it is more likely than not that Motorola is still tweaking this device.
Seriously? September is way too long of a time to have between leeks and release
The original will only be a year old in August. I’d hardly call a video of a boot animation we’ve seen before, a “leak.”
It’s the first look at the phone.
Its a closeup look of a previously seen boot animation on a screen. We see nothing of the phone.
You’re failing to see the big picture.
There’s no big picture. That’s the problem.
mmmm….leeks
The most useless “leak” ever. Wow, a closeup of a boot animation on a screen! Thanks, alot! I’m DEFINITELY getting it, now!
The leak was to show that they have the phone. The fact that they are doing the leak over 5 articles shows their intent. This one brief leak is driving a lot of web traffic to them.
The owners if that website don’t care if you buy the phone. All they care about is places like Phandroid sourcing their articles and driving traffic their way.
That “leak” does not show they have THE phone. It shows they have “a” phone. That video proves nothing. That could be any phone, from what is seen. Which is why I called it useless.
You claimed this was a useless leak. I’m simply asserting that the “leak” serves their purpose of driving clicks and advertising revenue. Which part of THAT statement do you disagree with? Clarify.
From the language used in my original comment, in which I stated my opinion, it can be intelligently inferred that I was commenting that the leak is “useless” to ME. I have no interest in, or care for the website’s use case and motives. The “leak” does not benefit me in any way, nor does it provide me with any iota of knowledge that I did not already have. So, again, the “leak” is useless. (To me…in case you STILL need me to clarify.)
No, try again.
No thanks. I’ll pass.
Hello, did everyone forget that Motorola is not a Google company anymore as the video shows? it’s Lenovo now? There is no way that device would show that animation screen.
I call fake.
Deal hasn’t gone through so it’s still a Google company. Such a huge misconception.
September?! I need a new phone now…
too little too late, next real moto milestone will be after the lenovo deal closes.
Sorry Motorola. I had to let the cat out of the bag. I couldn’t pass up $25,000.
Wow…… Such a leak. A screen showing a boot up that looks just about like the one my current gen moto x does.
Not to mention, that is a very long boot animation. You would hope the boot time would be decreasing as we go forward, not increasing.
What’s the deal with these phone names lately? First there was the HTC One X, then the HTC One X+, then the HTC One, then the 1+ from One Plus One, and now the Moto X+1????? WTF??? What’s next? The Galaxy X +1? the G3 +1X? Nexus1 + X? lol
