A new update for Pressy has just arrived over at Google Play, tightening up something annoying bugs and bringing new features that users should be excited for. Let’s get the old out of the way first by seeing which bugs have been squashed:
- Fixed a bug where some Samsung users could not use the speaker-phone while Pressy was inserted.
- The earphones icon will no longer be displayed when Pressy is inserted (on all devices).
- Few issues with Bluetooth speakers and headphones are resolved.
- Fixed a bug where notifications volume was changed on some devices when Pressy was inserted.
- No email account found – users who get this error message during activation will now be able to input their email address manually.
The item listed in bold was a big annoyance for users since receiving their Pressy units so we’re glad to see it cleared up so fast. As for what’s new? You can score five new triggers to bring us to a total of 14. The 5 extra triggers will only be found within the “slow” mode so if you’re not fond of that then you’ll be limited to the original 9. Pressy exclaims that this is not because they want to be cruel, but due to a technical limitation. They’re the professional developers so we’ll definitely take their word for it.
You’ll also be able to assign a trigger to an app shortcut now instead of just apps, so if you want to be taken right to a folder, a specific page within the settings menu, or open a message to a specific contact you will finally be able to do all of that. It’s just another small piece that makes the entire puzzle look a lot better. If you’re lucky enough to have received your Pressy units already you can find the update waiting for you at the link below.
For anyone who owns a Pressy: what are you using it to trigger on your phone?
I just received mine today. I’m using it to trigger the camera, start an audio recording and toggling wifi on/off, but i suspect I’ll end up changing the last one. So far, I’m pretty impressed. It’s even smaller than I thought it would be.
Haven’t been able to remember all the triggers I have set up, but my most used is the “Take a picture | instant | back camera” : it acts like a shutter on a real camera, but without seeing what I’m aiming at. My phone is too slow from the time I open the camera app to taking a pic, but I still need to wait a second or two for Pressy to take a pic, which I don’t mind sometimes.
I use it to open directly into the camera app, to send my location to my wife, to start a call to my wife, and to quickly turn on the “flashlight”. The feature I’m most wanting to use though, is the “Pressy-to-talk” — but they haven’t implemented that yet. I contacted them and they said they’re working on it for a future update once they have the basics smoothed out. I’m pretty pleased with this Kickstarter so far. I hope they continue to refine it.
I’m waiting for the ‘screenshot’ feature to be implemented, but not holding my breath.
Typically screen shot apps require root access. Not something a big company can expect there average customer base to understand
I almost mentioned it would only work on rooted phones, but didn’t. It was promised as 1 of the stretch goals.
I put my Pressy back in the holder and haven’t touched it since. This update MAY make me take it out and try it again, but I’m still disappointed with the whole system. Google Music takes over the quicker clicks if you open that app up and that just bothered me to no end.
I have not been able to get my Pressy to work since the day I got it on three different phones, contacted support with no reply.
Damn that sucks, do they have a forum maybe you can try there, it always sucks when you order something that doesn’t work.
You may want to check out the iKey http://www.tmart.com/search.html?typeid=&q=ikey. I was skeptical but ordered it anyway. The iKey was just delivered today, and I downloaded the app from the product description page. It works on my Galaxy S5 and for $2.50 might be worth it if you are on the fence. I figured even if it didn’t work it would help keep the water out of my phone.:)
Hmm… I funded it, I got notification that it’s ready weeks ago, and… haven’t gotten it yet.
This seems like it would be perfect for the Yo app.
Yo dawg, we heard you like “yo”…
still sucks, they need to completely redesign the app so it doesn’t needlessly interfere with with all the voice searches (how does a voice search have anything to do with a button?)
